  • Patent number: 7817363
Abstract: In one embodiment, defects are detected on the face of a hard-disk drive platter. A preamble, a sync mark, user or pseudorandom data, and a data pad are written to every sector on a track of the platter. Inter-sector gaps that separate consecutive sectors are overwritten with a fixed data pattern such that consecutive sectors are in phase lock with one another. After the track has been written, the track is read back and analyzed. Consecutive sectors are analyzed continuously without stopping. The preambles, sync marks, data pads, and overwritten inter-sector gaps are analyzed using suitable flaw-scan techniques. The user or pseudorandom data is analyzed using both data-integrity checks and suitable flaw-scan techniques. This process is repeated for all tracks on the disk, and defect detection is completed when all tracks have been analyzed.

  • Publication number: 20100082974
Abstract: Documents distributed in parallel are processed. One or more digital document packages are received, where each digital document package includes a content portion and an identity-verification code (IVC) verifying an identity of a source from which the digital document package is received. Each IVC may be a private-key encryption of a content-verification code hashed from the content portion of each digital document package. A master digital document package is created, which includes a master content portion equivalent to the content portion in each unmodified digital document package, and one or more different IVCs, each IVC obtained from a digital document package received from a different source.

  • Patent number: 7445373
Abstract: Apparatus and method for mixing a fluid dispersion disposed in a container having either a cylindrical or a square shape. The apparatus includes a holding structure having a retaining structure connected to a base. The retaining structure prevents lateral movement of the container both when the container has a cylindrical shape and when the container has a generally square shape with a width substantially equal to the diameter of the cylindrical shape. The apparatus rotates the container about at least one axis.

  • Publication number: 20080237992
Abstract: A pair of pivoting parts are held together with a pin, with a first part, such as a rod end of a hydraulic actuator, positioned between two flanges of a bracket, with the flanges having surfaces mating with sides surfaces of the rod end. A seal is placed in each of a pair of recesses on the opposite side surfaces of the rod end to provide an annular seal around the surface of the pin as the parts pivot, and also having a flange forming a side seal that seats on one of the mating surfaces of the bracket at a location spaced outwardly from the pin and extending annularly around the pin. The seal portion engaging the pin is spaced inwardly from the respective side surface of the bracket, and the outer annular lip seals a space surrounding the pin to form a pocket to receive grease that is used to lubricate the pin relative to the rod end.

  • Patent number: 7351001
Abstract: A plug for enclosing an opening within a wall of a hollow pillar and securing a wire harness running within the pillar. Included are at least two locks that resiliently engage the edge of the opening in order to secure the plug within the opening and align the plug within the opening along a first axis. Also included are at least two tensioners that resiliently engage the edge of the opening and align the plug within the opening along a second axis. At least one stabilizer then resiliently engages the wall, thereby exerting tension within the plug along a third axis.

  • Patent number: 7322334
Abstract: A chainsaw starting apparatus comprises a frame, a first crank arm, a second crank arm, and a locking mechanism. The frame is designed to occupy a fixed position relative to a floor surface. The first crank arm and the second crank arm are each rotationally supported by the frame and interconnected to produce rotational movement of one arm upon rotational movement of the other arm. The locking mechanism may be used for releasably attaching a chainsaw to the frame.

  • Patent number: 7054766
Abstract: Fluid flow properties often dictate the performance of processing operations. The present invention relates to a system for evaluating properties of a fluid flowing in a pipe. A test cell (20) which includes two parallel surfaces (5, 6) which are positioned in the flow. One of the surfaces is moveable relative to the other, to a position in close proximity to the other, to create a stagnant flow region between the surfaces. The system further includes a test input device (10) to apply input motion to one of the surfaces, and a test output device (13) to measure output motions from the cell in response to input motions. Furthermore, the system includes a processing device (9) to calculate rheological parameters of the fluid from signals produced from the test input and test output device. There is also a process for evaluating properties of a flowing fluid.

  • Publication number: 20040085510
Abstract: A contact lens is provided for correction of corneal distortions by provision of a low modulus hydrogel volume placed within the contact lens structure to overlay the pupil area and conform to corneal irregularities without print-through distorting the outer surface of the contact lens. The lenses thereby provide spherical, multifocal, astigmatic, and prismatic corrections without any requirement for orientation control. Corrections for conitis and corneal irregularities are also possible without the need for additional lens modifications. These lenses can also accommodate tear pumping, high oxygen transmission, edges off-the-eye, visibility tints and cosmetic tints.

  • Publication number: 20030187939
Abstract: This invention discloses a method and system whereby a conventional electronic mail system is enhanced to add functionality to allow the sender of an e-mail message to insert a “print-on-receipt” (P-O-R) flag or code in an e-mail message and for the receiving e-mail system to detect the flag and print the e-mail without any user intervention. In the preferred embodiment, the receiving e-mail system composes and sends a affirmative feedback reply message to the sender to indicate that the original message was successfully printed. Further enhancements are described to add functionality to control the acceptable message sizes and to filter and control the processing of incoming of P-O-R e-mail to avoid unwanted messages being printed without user intervention. Further enhancements are described to print files attached to the P-O-R e-mail message.

  • Publication number: 20030164565
Abstract: An injection mold insert and a method of fabricating an injection mold insert for molding lens molds which provides a plurality of replicates of a single master mold mandrel which may be produced, for example, by diamond point. The mandrel is used to electroform an electroform mold insert component having an optical quality surface which forms a surface of an injection mold. An adhesive is used to fixedly attach the electroform mold insert to a separately machined mold insert substrate.
