  • Patent number: 6154670
Abstract: A method for distracting a coxofemoral joint of a patient having two hind legs includes the steps of placing the patient in ventral recumbency, positioning a distractor between the upper thighs so that the distractor acts as a fulcrum for lateral displacement of the coxofemoral joint, and applying inward pressure to the stifle regions to distract the coxofemoral joint. Related methods are also disclosed for imaging a distracted coxofemoral joint and for evaluating the likelihood of developing laxity of a coxofemoral joint in a patient. The imaging can be non-radiographic. A distractor apparatus, suitable for use in the methods, is also described.

  • Patent number: 5636648
Abstract: A mobile rotator jet sewer cleaner vehicle for cleaning a sewer line by fluid pressure, the vehicle having a fluid supply for delivering the fluid under pressure to a hose wound on a reel assembly which can be selectively wound or unwound in a vertical direction, wherein a bearing assembly movable in a horizontal direction is secured on a platform and a reel assembly is mounted on and movable with the bearing assembly. A control for selectively actuating winding and unwinding the hose on the reel assembly is provided, and this control, which may also include other instruments and controls for operating the sewer cleaner, is movable with the bearing and reel assembly. In another embodiment of the invention, the platform telescopes into and away from a recess in the vehicle chassis, so that the reel and bearing assemblies are extended from the vehicle when in use, but may be retracted into the recess when desired, and in such event the retracted jet sewer cleaner may be enclosed within the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5546082
Abstract: A measuring probe measures a parameter with a sensor. The sensor provides a sensor output signal related to a measured value. An amplifier section receives the sensor output signal and provides an amplifier output signal. An integrator has an input and an integrator output related to an integration of the input. Switching circuitry receives the amplifier output signal and a reference signal and has an output connected to the input of the integrator. Controller circuitry coupled to the switching circuitry connects the amplifier output to the integrator input during a sampling time, and the reference signal to the integrator input during a conversion time. The conversion time is related to the sensor output signal and is measured to obtain a digital representation of the sensor output.

  • Patent number: 5454192
Abstract: A sealing device automatically seals a gap between a door bottom and a floor in response to closing movement of the door. The sealing device includes a support element attachable to the door bottom, a seal actuating element movably supported from the support element by spring elements, and a sealing element carried by the seal actuating element. The sealing device may be mounted to the inside or outside of a door, or mortise-mounted in the door, and may be mounted to left- or right-opening hinged doors, or to sliding or articulated closures, and may be provided as an after market or OEM device. The spring elements in the preferred embodiment are one-piece and are integrally connected to both the support element and the seal actuating element, thereby forming a one-piece sealing device preferably made of plastic.

  • Patent number: 5443229
Abstract: An aircraft engine sideways mount assembly includes a thrust mount and an engine suspension for suspending the engine structure sideways from the aircraft such that the thrust mount is operable to react substantially all the thrust load forces from the engine to the aircraft. The thrust mount has a thrust bar extending between the engine structure and a structure fixed to the aircraft such that the thrust bar has a line of action which intersects the engine centerline in a support mount plane through which the engine suspension suspends the engine and which is generally perpendicular the engine centerline. The thrust bar has two thrust links pivotably joined to the aircraft at their aft ends and pivotably joined to the engine structure between the pivotal support mounts at their forward ends and include lines of force which intersect the engine centerline at the forward mount plane through which the forward pivotal support mount acts to support the engine.

  • Patent number: 5410667
Abstract: The disk drive array data storage subsystem maps between virtual and physical data storage devices and schedules the writing of data to these devices. The data storage subsystem functions as a conventional large form factor disk drive memory, using an array of redundancy groups, each containing N+M disk drives. This system copies data records by simply creating a duplicate data record pointer in a virtual track directory to reference the original data record. This enables the host processor to access the data record via two virtual addresses while only a single physical copy of the data record resides in the data storage subsystem.

  • Patent number: 5396620
Abstract: The present invention comprises a method for enhancing data integrity during write operations in a data storage subsystem which comprises an array of redundant, interconnected disk drives. A data storage subsystem is disclosed which provides for writing data segments spread across N disk drives of the array and provides for generating and recording redundancy information spread across M disk drives. Redundancy information is used for reconstructing erroneous data in the case of a disk drive failure. It may be desirable to write a final portion of the data last, after other portions of the data and associated redundancy information have been recorded to the disk drives. The last portion of the data segments may contain information that validates the data. It is common to automatically generate the redundancy information as the data is written to the disk drives. The generated redundancy information is then later written to the disk drives.

  • Patent number: 5388964
Abstract: A hybrid gas turbine engine rotor blade includes an airfoil and a dovetail integrally joined thereto. The airfoil includes an inner portion disposed adjacent to the dovetail to provide a structural transition, and an outer portion disposed thereabove for effecting a pressure rise in airflow channeled thereacross. A nosepiece is disposed adjacent to the leading edge of the airfoil inner portion, and a tailpiece is disposed adjacent to the trailing edge of the airfoil inner portion. The nosepiece, tailpiece, and airfoil inner portion are collectively aerodynamically configured for effecting a pressure rise in the airflow channeled thereacross.
