  • Patent number: 5511952
Abstract: A scroll type fluid displacement apparatus includes a housing in which interfitting fixed and orbiting scrolls are disposed. The outer surface of the end plate of the fixed scroll and the inner surface of the housing are in fluid tight contact so that the interior of the housing is partitioned into two chambers. After the refrigerant is compressed, it is discharged through a discharge bore into the second chamber. A dividing wall formed in the second chamber partially surrounds the discharge bore. The compressor housing has a recessed portion near the outlet port. A thermal sensor is positioned in the recessed portion. A passageway formed in the dividing wall directs the air flowing out of the discharge bore against the inside surface of the housing where the thermal sensor is positioned.

  • Patent number: 5502290
Abstract: A switching mechanism for use e.g. in a circuit breaker of an underground electric substation has a movable rod which causes opening and closing of an electrical contact and a hydraulic operating system. The hydraulic operating system uses a hydraulic fluid which has a high flammability temperature or is incombustible. Thus, even if such fluid leaks from the hydraulic operating system, the risk of fire or explosion is minimized. The hydraulic operating system may have a sealed tank for the fluid, preferably with a variable volume expansion chamber. In a further development, the hydraulic operating system and possibly parts of the movable rod, is enclosed in a casing which is sealed and is filled with a gas which does not support combustion therein. Thus, the risk of fire or explosion is further reduced. The casing may have a variable volume expansion chamber.

  • Patent number: 5480542
Abstract: A packing for chromatography whereby a low molecular weight substance contained in biological samples can be analyzed directly at a high accuracy without any pretreatments. This packing is combining a protein such as avidin and ovomucoid to the support via a straight or branched spacer optionally having a functional group such as a cyano group. Enantiomers interact differentially with proteins, and thereby optically separated. Further, a purification column packed with said packing is disclosed. According to the present invention, a low molecular weight substance can be directly and accurately analyzed without requiring any pretreatment for removing biological macromolecules. When it is employed in the purification column, the time required for the pretreatment can be shortened.

  • Patent number: 5146862
Abstract: A sewing machine-driving apparatus forms an accurate and stable seam at a first stitch in a conventional double chain stitch or covering chain stitch sewing machine. Its motor is controlled so as to drive the sewing machine in a direction reverse to that of the usual sewing operation for a limited time period between the completion of a thread cutting operation and a point of time when the sewing machine needles reach their needle-down position. Thus, the stitching needles reach their lowest points without scooping a looper thread at the first stitch; assuring the formation of a stable and accurate seam in the second stitch.

  • Patent number: 5133071
Abstract: In a channel control for an information processing system, a service processor (SVP) loads a microprogram of the channel controller at system initialization, and thereafter initiates the microprogram for storing microprograms and configuration information for a plurality of channel units held in the SVP into the specified area of a main storage. Subsequently, the configuration information and microprograms from the main storage are loaded into the channel units under control of the microprogram of the channel controller. Thereby, the microprograms and configuration information are loaded into the channel units by a channel controller equipped with a fast-processing microprocessor and, eventually, a fast loading control and error correction process are accomplished.

  • Patent number: 5117109
Abstract: The components present in the sample with a mobile phase A in 1st section is separated. In 2nd section there is provided with an inserting line of a dilute solution for diluting the mobile phase A and a trapping column which forces the dilute solution to pass but catches the components by connecting said line to said column. In 3rd section, the components caught by the trapping column are introduced into mass spectrometer by using a mobile phase B. It is preferable to use respectively different mobile phases for the mobile phase A and the mobile phase B. It is good to install separating columns in 1st and 3rd sections. It is also desired to add the retaining apparatus of the components separated in 1st section.

  • Patent number: 4990931
Abstract: A transfer recording medium comprises a transfer recording layer, which causes an irreversible change in transfer characteristic when provided with plural kinds of energies, at least one of which is applied imagewise, to provide a transferable portion or latent image portion in the transfer recording layer. The transferable portion is then transferred to a medium such as plain paper to form a transferred image thereon, which is then fixed by application of at least one of light, heat and pressure. The fixing step is effective, e.g., in providing a recorded image with improved stability against environments and elapse of time, color reproducibility and color densities through functional separation from the transfer step.
