    Abstract: A backlight system providing enhanced uniform brightness and a liquid crystal display (LCD) employing the same are provided. The backlight system includes: a light guide panel which forms a surface light source by guiding light; and a plurality of light emitting units arranged on at least one side of the light guide panel in the form of an array, wherein when the light emitting units in the array are divided into a first region, a second region and a third region and at least one of light emitting units is included in an edge of the first region and an edge of the third region, a quantity of current applied to the first region and the third region is controlled to be larger than a quantity of current applied to the second region in order to control the light guide panel to provide uniform brightness.

A power supplier supplies power to the plurality of LED devices, and a controller controls the power supplier to supply the power to the LED device in each divided area sequentially and repeatedly.
