    Abstract: A washing and drying machine that is capable of performing heat exchange between outside air introduced into a cabinet and the circumferential surface of a tub so as to condense air used to dry laundry. No cooling water is used to condense air used to dry the laundry. Consumption of water is reduced, and therefore, the maintenance costs of the washing and drying machine are decreased. Furthermore, no condensing duct is necessary. Consequently, flow resistance is decreased, and drying efficiency is improved. In addition, sufficient space is provided between the rear surface of the tub and the cabinet. Consequently, the volume of the drum is increased, and the washing/drying capacity of the washing and drying machine is increased.

When the folding shelf disposed in the storage chamber is folded in a vertical direction, there is formed a space capable of storing containers or food products having a great height. When the folding shelf is unfolded in a horizontal direction, containers or food products having a small height may be put on the folding shelf. Thus, a storage space of the refrigerator may be more efficiently used.

The balancer includes a balancer ring mounted to a drum, the balancer ring having a liquid receiving space for receiving liquid, a plurality of first baffles disposed in the interior of the balancer ring, and a plurality of second baffles disposed between the first baffles such that the first and second baffles are alternately arranged, the second baffles having a height lower than that of the first baffles. When abnormal vibration is generated in the washing machine, the surge of salt water is effectively prevented by the second baffles. Consequently, further noise and vibration due to a resonance phenomenon or other abnormal vibration is minimized.

The drum type washing machine includes a drum performing washing, a motor rotating the drum, bearing housings having bearings to support a rotation shaft, a suspension connected to the bearing housings and the cabinet to mitigate vibration generated during rotation of the drum, a bracket installed to the bearing housings to form the rear side of the tub, and a gasket installed between the bracket and the tub to seal the tub and to prevent vibration from being transmitted from the bracket to the tub. Volumes of the tub and the drum can be easily increased without increasing the volume of the cabinet. Even when the volume of the washing machine is changed, only one of the tub and the bearing housings, which is not applicable to the drum type washing machine having the changed washing capacity, is selectively replaced. Thus parts can commonly used in various drum type washing machine having different volume.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a motor and a washing machine with the same mounted therein. The motor includes a rotor cup having cooling-holes and lower blades formed at the bottom part thereof. The cooling-holes and lower blades are arranged such that each of the cooling-holes and lower blades is at a prescribed angle to the radial direction of the rotor cup so that the volume of blown air is increased, and thus a blowing force is also increased. The rotor cup is provided at the lower part of the circumference thereof with vents for allowing the air introduced into the inside of the rotor cup to be discharged to the outside therethrough. The rotor is provided at the upper side thereof with backward type upper blades so that the upper part of the motor is separately cooled, whereby cooling efficiency of the motor is improved.
