  • Publication number: 20070206331
Abstract: Embodiments in accordance with the present invention relate to suppressing deterioration in rigidity and dynamic characteristics of a tab even when an initial point of contact between a tab and a ramp during unloading is set closer to the outer periphery of a disk. A data storage device in one embodiment of the present invention includes a head, a ramp for unloading the head, a load beam having a head support portion for supporting the head and a tab adapted to slide on a sliding surface of the ramp on a front end side with respect to the head support portion, and an actuator having the load beam and adapted to actuate the head for loading and unloading. During unloading, a portion of the tab offset from the center in the transverse direction of the tab first comes into contact with the sliding surface of the ramp. The load beam has a flange formed to be bent and continuously from the front end portion of the tab up to both ends of the head support portion.

  • Patent number: 7245457
Abstract: A magnetic disk drive includes a magnetic disk and a femto slider. The magnetic disk has a minimum track linear velocity of 1 to 5 m/s. In one embodiment, the magnetic disk drive includes a negative pressure type femto slider and adopts a load/unload method. A gram load “GL” of a head suspension assembly HSA is set at a value exceeding about 3 mN and smaller than about 15 mN and a pitch static attitude “PSA” (deg) and pitch stiffness “Kp” (Nm/deg) satisfy the expression ((PSA×Kp)/GL)<0.25 mm. As a result, it is possible to prevent the femto slider from assuming a meta-stable flying high state referred to as a bi-stable height. Further, by setting the pitch static attitude “PSA” at a value of larger than 0 deg, it is possible to prevent the slider from assuming a state of meta-stable contact with the magnetic disk surface referred to as semi-stable drag.

  • Publication number: 20070091506
Abstract: Embodiment of the invention provides a magnetic disk drive that may suppress the decrease of a recording region by preventing a magnetic head slider from abutting a magnetic disk at the time of loading, and suppress the degradation of the flying characteristics. In one embodiment a magnetic disk drive of the present invention is provided with a magnetic head slider including a magnetic transducer, a ramp that unloads the magnetic head slider, and an actuator that moves the magnetic head slider. The magnetic head slider includes a rail surface that generates a positive pressure on an air-bearing surface, a step bearing surface, and a taper section that is formed to a slider corner section that is brought closest to the surface of a recording disk at the time of loading with a space from the rail surface and the step bearing surface.

  • Publication number: 20050057848
Abstract: A portable, small magnetic disk drive to be mounted on a portable device operates silently at low power consumption. In one embodiment, a spindle motor is fixed to the bottom wall of a metal base plate formed in the shape of a box by press working. The spindle motor is provided with a fluid dynamic bearing (FDB). A spindle hub is supported on the FDB, and a small magnetic disk having a diameter of about 1.8 in. (45.7 mm) or below is mounted on the spindle hub and is fastened to the spindle hub with a top clamp. The rotating speed of the spindle motor is about 4200 rpm or below. Gram load for pressing a magnetic head toward the magnetic disk is about 0.5 gf or above and less than about 1.0 gf.

  • Publication number: 20050052784
Abstract: A compact hard disk drive that operates silently at a low power consumption needs a suspension assembly that places a low load on the magnetic head. In one embodiment, a suspension assembly comprises a head arm mounted on a carriage shaft, a load beam capable of placing load on a magnetic head and serving as a beam, and a flexure assembly. The flexure assembly includes a flexure formed by processing a thin metal sheet, an insulating layer laminated to the flexure, a wiring pattern formed on the insulating layer, and a protective layer coating the wiring pattern. The flexure has a flexible part for placing load on the magnetic head, a gimbals to which the magnetic head is attached, and a base part attached to the head arm. The elastic part of the flexure generates a very load in the range of about 0.5 to about 1 g.

  • Publication number: 20050036241
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a rotary disk storage device in which dust particles are less likely to deposit on the air bearing surface of each head/slider. The actuator head suspension assembly is configured so as to make the skew angle of the head/slider positive at about 80% or more of all the tracks. Specifically, the actuator head suspension assembly is configured in such a manner that the distance L2 between the center of the pivot shaft and the intersection point P of the trailing edge of the head/slider is made longer than a given length or there is an angle ? between the reference line Y and the pivot line Z.

  • Patent number: 5985124
Abstract: Disclosed is a nickel electroplating bath or a nickel alloy electroplating bath used for electroplating a conductor partially masked with an organic high-molecular resist layer, wherein the nickel electroplating bath contains a water-soluble nickel salt, and the nickel alloy electroplating bath contains both a water-soluble nickel salt and a water-soluble salt of a metal capable of being alloyed with nickel. The above electroplating bath is incorporated with an electrical conductive salt containing at least one cation selected from the group consisting of an ammonium ion, magnesium ion, calcium ion, aluminum ion, and barium ion. Further, the electrical conductive salt substantially does not contain a sodium ion and a potassium ion as cations. Such an electroplating bath is capable of electroplating a conductor partially masked with an organic high-molecular resist layer without floating of the resist layer.

  • Patent number: 5868358
Abstract: In the present invention four thrusters are provided as a group of thrusters for collision avoidance. These thrusters contain a component of translational thrust for collision avoidance injection in their respective outputs, and are capable of simultaneously generating posture control torque around two coordinate axes, which are orthogonal to a thrust axis, in order to maintain the directional stability of the thrust axis during the injection. When abnormality arises in a group of thrusters for ordinary use, collision avoidance is executed by replacing all the thrusters for ordinary use by these thrusters for collision avoidance.
