Abstract: A dichroic dye for coloring liquid crystal compositions are disclosed which is represented by the following general formula: ##STR1## in which Dye 1 and Dye 2 each represents a group of atoms necessary to form a linear dye structure containing an azo, azomethine or ester group; X represents a halogen atom; and n represents an integer of from 1 to 10. The dye is suited for use in color liquid crystal display devices, e.g., of guest-host type.

Abstract: An concrete filled steel tube column and method of constructing same. The concrete filled steel tube column includes a steel tube having an inner face; a concrete core disposed within the steel tube; and a separating layer interposed between the inner face of the steel tube and the concrete core for separating the concrete core from the inner face of the steel tube so that the steel tube may not be bonded to the concrete core. After the separating layer is formed on the inner face of the steel tube, the concrete is charged into the steel tube to form a concrete core.

Abstract: An earthquake-insulating building structure including a structure body and a foundation supporting the structure body, the foundation having a plurality of earthquake-insulating piles embedded within the ground, each of the piles including a pile body having upper and lower portions, the upper portion being connected to the structure body, and a cylindrical casing surrounding the upper portion of the pile body so as to form a space between the upper portion of the pile body and the ground.

Abstract: Yeast cells containing useful substances accumulated therein are contacted with a divalent copper ion in aqueous suspension, thereby discharging low-molecular-weight compounds in the cytoplasm out of the cells. Useful substances can be efficiently recovered both from the discharged compounds and the remaining cells.
