  • Patent number: 5571495
Abstract: Proposed is a dielectric thin film of a substituted lead titanate having a chemical composition expressed by the formulaPb(Ti.sub.1-x M.sub.x)O.sub.3in which the subscript x is a positive number in the range from 0.05 to 0.50 and M is an element selected from the group consisting of niobium, tantalum, vanadium, antimony, bismuth, arsenic, tungsten, hafnium, germanium, tin, aluminum and gallium substituting for a part of the titanium atoms in the perovskite crystal lattice of lead titanate. Different from thin films of unsubstituted lead titanate or conventional substituted lead titanates, the above defined dielectric thin films of the invention are free from the disadvantage that the dielectric constant of the thin film is greatly decreased when the thickness of the thin film is so small as to be 1 .mu.m or smaller so that the dielectric constant of the inventive dielectric thin film having a thickness of 0.5 .mu.

  • Patent number: 5505126
Abstract: A dampening arrangement for a printing press such as a lithographic press includes at least one solution receiving roller for receiving dampening solution and other rollers for conveying the dampening solution to a printing plate. The dampening arrangement is provided with a nozzle unit having a plurality of nozzles arranged substantially in parallel with the axis of the solution receiving roller and opposed to predetermined areas on the surface of the solution receiving roller, and a dampening solution supply source connected to the nozzle means for supplying the nozzles with a pressurized dampening solution. The distance between the nozzles and the surface of the solution receiving roller is automatically adjusted in accordance with the printing speed of the printing press. The printing press does not cause a printing defect due to excess supply of the dampening solution even when the printing press is operated at a high speed.

  • Patent number: 5255606
Abstract: A drag roller device for a printing apparatus comprises a cleaning means for cleaning a drag roller. The cleaning means is in contact with a part of the circumferential surface of the drag roller except for the circumferential area around which a printed continuous sheet fed from a printing section is wound. The cleaning means may be movable within the circumferential area of the drag roller or separable from it. The cleaning means may be supplied with a cleaning liquid. In the drag roller device thus constructed, the cleaning means can remove various stains and/or spots of ink transferred from the circumferential surface of the drag roller and/or additional rollers at each revolution of the drag roller. This cleaning operation of the cleaning means ensures to prevent the printed surface of the continuous sheet succeedingly fed from damaging with the stains and spots of ink from the drag roller and so on.

  • Patent number: 5228615
Abstract: This invention relates to a process of making golf club head, comprising the steps of preparing a sectional forming mold having a cavity which duplicates the shape of the head to be produced; preparing a coupled body, having a channel within, consisting of metal sheets made of a superplastic material; clamping the coupled body in the forming mold, heating the coupled body to a range of superplastic forming temperatures and applying fluid pressure to the sheets through the channel opening to force the sheets to conform to the shape of the head by superplastic forming; and trimming the formed product to shape to obtain the golf club head. The invented process is able to produce heads of fine uniform microstructure because the process does not involve conventional casting process, providing freedom from damaging porosities and segregation.

  • Patent number: 5185256
Abstract: This invention relates to a biosensor which comprises an insulative base, an electrode system formed on the substrate and primarily made of carbon, and a perforated body having an enzyme and an electron acceptor and integrally combined with the electrode system whereby a concentration of a specific component in a biological liquid sample can be electrochemically measured rapidly and accurately by a simple procedure of mere addition of the liquid sample. Several simple biosensors for measuring a specific component in a liquid sample are known including a sensor of the type in which a change of a dye formed by an enzyme reaction is optically detected and a sensor of the type using an enzyme electrode. These sensors, respectively, involve an interference with colored matters in liquid sample and necessity of washing of an electrode system every measuring procedure. In addition, the sensors are complicated in structure and materials therefor are expensive.

  • Patent number: 5171689
Abstract: As the conventional simple bio-sensors for measuring the particular component in living bodies, there are those in which a change in dye caused by enzyme reaction is detected optically, but such bio-sensors had a problem that precision is low owing to disturbance of the color of liquid samples. With bio-sensors using an enzyme electrode, the precision was high, but operation of measurement was troublesome. The present invention made it possible to detect the concentration of the particular component electromechanically with rapidity, simplicity and high precision by merely putting a porous substrate containing at least enzyme on the electrode system and impregnating the body with a liquid sample.

  • Patent number: 5120420
Abstract: A biosensor of the invention comprises an insulating base board (1) having formed thereon, in sequence, leads (2, 3, 3'), an electrode system mainly made of carbon (4, 5, 5'), an insulating layer (6) and a reaction layer (14) composed of an enzyme and an electron acceptor, and being provided thereon with a space (8) defined by a spacer (7) and a cover 9). When a biological sample solution is brought into contact with the inlet (10) of the biosensor having the above-described structure, the sample solution is introduced into its inside, while the air within the space (8) is rapidly discharged through the outlet (11) and, at the same time, the space (8) is filled with the sample solution up to the neighborhood of the outlet. Thus, measurement can be conducted inexpensively at a high speed with a high accuracy through simple procedures without residual bubbles.

  • Patent number: 5044000
Abstract: An imaging area has a substrate with a mosaic of photo diodes arranged in rows and columns on a solid state substrate. Vertical shift registers are positioned between the columns to transfer photo charges out of the photo diodes and to associated electronic circuits. Depletion layers are interposed in said substrate to separate it into areas. Pulses are applied to the depletion layers driving the transfer periods in order to prevent charge overflow, and therefore a smearing of the image.

  • Patent number: 4851309
Abstract: A rechargeable negative electrode for an electrochemical apparatus using nonaqueous electrolytes, said electrode comprising an alloy comprising (1) at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Sn, Pn, In and Bi and (2) Zn or Zn and Cd, as well as a rechargeable electrochemical apparatus comprising a combination of said negative electrode with a positive electrode having reversibility in charging and discharging. The above-mentioned negative electrode reversibly absorbs and desorbs alkali metal ions, as the result of charge and discharge, in nonaqueous electrolyte containing alkali metal ions. It undergoes no pulverization even after repeated charge and discharge, and maintains its shape stably, so that it has a long charge-and-discharge cycle life. Further, since it can absorb a large quantity of alkali metal per unit volume, it is of high energy density.
