  • Patent number: 6800840
Abstract: A portable information processor includes a computer main body and a digitizer connected by a flexible hinge defined in a cover. The hinge allows the computer main body and the digitizer to assume different superposed states by means of a flexible separable portion of the cover. In the superposed state of the computer main body and the digitizer, arbitrariness in folding back the separable portion causes runout between the computer main body and the digitizer. In spite of this runout, the superposed state can be accurately detected by means of an optical sensor, including an infrared radiator and an infrared-ray detector, disposed in the computer main body. A flexible reflection member is fixed to a predetermined surface of the separable portion of the leather cover, while assuring a predetermined area. If the computer main body and the digitizer assume a superposed state, light emitted from the infrared radiator is reflected by the flexible reflection member and is incident on the infrared-ray detector.

  • Patent number: 6717046
Abstract: To provide a computer device wherein liquid penetration into a ventilation hole from its periphery can be prevented or reduced without sacrificing design and without limitation of the size and operation. Coating films 7a and 7b in frame form are applied on a periphery of a ventilation hole 6. A wet-characteristic of the coating film 7a and 7b is different from a wet-characteristic of material composing a housing 3. For example, when an angle of contact of coating films 7a and 7b for water is larger than an angle of contact of material composing the housing 3, if water is spilled on the outside of the coating film 7b the coating film 7b prevents the water flow into the ventilation hole 6.

  • Patent number: 6665163
Abstract: In a docking station for a PC, a PCI adapter, an IDE controller, and a PC card controller operate when a PCI clock is supplied from the PC, and stop when the supply of the PCI clock is stopped by the PC entering a sleep mode. A driving signal output circuit outputs an actuation signal to a cooling fan drive circuit when the PCI clock is supplied thereto, and outputs a stop signal to the cooling fan drive circuit when the supply of the PCI clock is stopped. The cooling fan drive circuit includes a temperature sensor for detecting the internal temperature of a power supply unit, and controls on/off of the cooling fan on the basis of the detected temperature by this temperature sensor and an output signal from the driving signal output circuit.

  • Patent number: 6654229
Abstract: An electrode material for an electric double layer capacitor having a carbon fiber as an essential material. The carbon fiber has a coaxial stacking morphology of truncated conical tubular graphene layers, and each of the truncated conical tubular graphene layers includes a hexagonal carbon layer. Edges of the hexagonal carbon layer are exposed. The exposed edges of the hexagonal carbon layers have a high degree of activity and can be modified with functional groups such as —COOH, —CHO, or —OH. This enables use of the carbon fiber as the electrode material. The specific surface area of the surfaces on which the edges are exposed is extremely large, whereby a large-capacitance electric double layer capacitor can be formed.

  • Patent number: 6648652
Abstract: In a data processing system, a flexible cable includes a pattern of transmission lines formed thereon, the lines having a predetermined width. On the transmission lines are formed a first set of lands each for connecting a connection pin of an RJ45 connector and a second set of lands each for connecting a connection pin of a transmission line connector—each land being wider than a transmission line. A transition region is provided in each transmission line in the vicinity of the land, the width of the transition region increasing gradually from the line width to the land width as the transmission line approaches the pin.

  • Patent number: 6574102
Abstract: To provide a docking station for a portable computer, which increases its heat radiation when the docking station is docked with the portable computer. A docking station is equipped with a fan unit at a back portion of a power supply unit within a station body, and a front surface of a connection portion with which a notebook PC is docked is provided with an air suction opening. Thereby, once the fan unit is driven, high temperature air is exhausted from a station body and the connection portion, then outside air is introduced from the suction opening to stimulate the cooling of the connection portion, and the heat which is transferred from a back side portion of the notebook PC to the connection portion is also dissipated there to stimulate the cooling of the notebook PC side.

  • Publication number: 20030044602
Abstract: A carbon fiber has a coaxial stacking morphology of truncated conical tubular graphene layers, wherein each of the graphene layers includes a hexagonal carbon layer and has a large ring end at one end and a small ring end at the other end in the axial direction. When the carbon fiber is subjected to a heat treatment in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, the large ring ends of each two of the hexagonal carbon layers are linked by layer link sections in at least one of groups of the hexagonal carbon layers arranged in an axial direction, and an outer surface is closed to have a multi-semiring structure in cross section. When the carbon fiber is then subjected to a heat treatment in an oxidizing atmosphere, the layer link sections are released, whereby the edges of the hexagonal carbon layers are exposed at the large ring ends in a regularly arranged manner.

  • Patent number: 6519669
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus and a method of hot docking/undocking a bus line and a peripheral device of a computer. The bus switch 60 connects and disconnects the bus lines 16a and 16b. The bus switch control circuit 61 generates on line 305-311 a bus switch control signal which responds to a turn around cycle from the signal on the bus line 16a and supplies it to the bus switch. The bus switch is operated to open/close in response to the bus switch control signal. Thus, the bus line 16a is in a turn around cycle in connecting/disconnecting the bus lines 16a and 16b so that the cycle operation of the bus is not affected by a noise accompanying opening/closure.

  • Publication number: 20030026982
Abstract: A carbon fiber having catalytic metal supported thereon according to the present invention is a carbon fiber in which a number of hexagonal carbon layers in the shape of a cup having no bottom are stacked. At least part of edges of the hexagonal carbon layers is exposed at an outer surface or inner surface of the carbon fiber. Catalytic metal is supported on the exposed edges of the hexagonal carbon layers. The edges of the hexagonal carbon layers are further exposed by removing a deposited layer formed on the outer surface or inner surface of the carbon fiber. The exposed edges of the hexagonal carbon layers have an extremely high activity and are suitable as a support for catalytic metal.
