  • Publication number: 20020136882
Abstract: A carbon fiber product according to the present invention is a carbon fiber product in which one to several hundreds of hexagonal carbon layers in the shape of a bottomless cup are stacked. Edges of the hexagonal carbon layers are exposed on at least part of an outer surface or inner surface. The exposed part of the edges of the hexagonal carbon layers have a high degree of activity and excel in adhesion to base materials such as resins. Therefore, this carbon fiber product is suitable as a material for composites.

  • Publication number: 20020136682
Abstract: A carbon fiber for a field electron emitter has a coaxial stacking morphology of truncated conical tubular graphene layers, each of which includes a hexagonal carbon layer and has a large ring end and a small ring end at opposite ends in the axial direction. The edges of the hexagonal carbon layers are exposed on at least part of the large ring ends. Since all the exposed edges function as electron emission tips, a large amount of emission current can be obtained.

  • Publication number: 20020126431
Abstract: In a docking station for a PC, a PCI adapter, an IDE controller, and a PC card controller operate when a PCI clock is supplied from the PC, and stop when the supply of the PCI clock is stopped by the PC entering a sleep mode. A driving signal output circuit outputs an actuation signal to a cooling fan drive circuit when the PCI clock is supplied thereto, and outputs a stop signal to the cooling fan drive circuit when the supply of the PCI clock is stopped. The cooling fan drive circuit includes a temperature sensor for detecting the internal temperature of a power supply unit, and controls on/off of the cooling fan on the basis of the detected temperature by this temperature sensor and an output signal from the driving signal output circuit.

  • Patent number: 6421782
Abstract: To provide an expansion unit that implements a WOL (Wake-On-LAN) security function at a low cost in a multi-user environment wherein one expansion unit is used in common by an unspecified number of notebook PCs. An expansion unit includes a LAN adapter having WOL function for connection to a LAN. Since power is constantly supplied to the LAN adapter by an auxiliary power source, the LAN adapter asserts a WOL signal in response to the receipt through the LAN of a wake-up packet. Since a WOL status register and a logic circuit are provided for the expansion unit, network security is ensured for the information processing system. The information processing system can issue an instruction to permit or to inhibit a WOL by writing a predetermined value in the WOL status register. Upon receipt of a WOL signal from the LAN adapter, the logic circuit refers to the WOL status register.

  • Patent number: 6377169
Abstract: A transmitted signal confirmation device includes a transmitter, a receiver, a situation detecting device, an indicating mode determining device, and an indicator. The transmitter transmits the signal of a location of an individual (e.g., a vehicle). The receiver receives a signal receipt confirmation signal from a distant facility indicating receipt of the transmitted signal. The situation detecting device detects the situation existing at the location. The indicating mode determining device selects one indicating mode out of plural different indicating modes based on the situation at the location. The indicator provides a signal receipt confirmation indication with the one indicating mode when the receiver has received the confirmation signal.

  • Publication number: 20020030816
Abstract: A portable information processor includes a computer main body and a digitizer connected by a flexible hinge defined in a cover. The hinge allows the computer main body and the digitizer to assume different superposed states by means of a flexible separable portion of the cover. In the superposed state of the computer main body and the digitizer, arbitrariness in folding back the separable portion causes runout between the computer main body and the digitizer. In spite of this runout, the superposed state can be accurately detected by means of an optical sensor, including an infrared radiator and an infrared-ray detector, disposed in the computer main body. A flexible reflection member is fixed to a predetermined surface of the separable portion of the leather cover, while assuring a predetermined area. If the computer main body and the digitizer assume a superposed state, light emitted from the infrared radiator is reflected by the flexible reflection member and is incident on the infrared-ray detector.

  • Publication number: 20010034142
Abstract: In a data processing system, a flexible cable includes a pattern of transmission lines formed thereon, the lines having a predetermined width. On the transmission lines are formed a first set of lands each for connecting a connection pin of an RJ45 connector and a second set of lands each for connecting a connection pin of a transmission line connector—each land being wider than a transmission line. A transition region is provided in each transmission line in the vicinity of the land, the width of the transition region increasing gradually from the line width to the land width as the transmission line approaches the pin.

  • Publication number: 20010030851
Abstract: To provide a docking station for a portable computer, which increases its heat radiation when the docking station is docked with the portable computer. A docking station is equipped with a fan unit at a back portion of a power supply unit within a station body, and a front surface of a connection portion with which a notebook PC is docked is provided with an air suction opening. Thereby, once the fan unit is driven, high temperature air is exhausted from a station body and the connection portion, then outside air is introduced from the suction opening to stimulate the cooling of the connection portion, and the heat which is transferred from a back side portion of the notebook PC to the connection portion is also dissipated there to stimulate the cooling of the notebook PC side.

  • Patent number: 6209042
Abstract: A computer system has a central processing unit (“CPU”) and a plurality of peripheral devices. A bus interconnects the CPU and the peripheral devices. Command signals are transmitted over the bus including an initiator ready signal (“IRDY”), a device select signal (“DEVSEL”) and a target ready signal (“TRDY”). First and second direct memory access devices (“DMA”) are connected to the bus and assigned the same address space. First and second switches selectively connect and disconnect the DEVSEL and TRDY signals that are output from the first and second DMA devices, respectively. Controller logic receives the DEVSEL and TRDY signals and directs the opening and closing of the first and second switches.
