  • Patent number: 6230490
Abstract: An exhaust manifold is constructed of material varying in thickness. Auxiliary cooling, such as from an air flow, to a portion of the exhaust manifold, permits making this portion thinner than a portion shielded from the auxiliary cooling. This lowers the heat capacity of the thinner material, allowing the exhaust manifold to heat rapidly to the activation temperature of a catalyst. Thus, the catalyst is capable of removing harmful elements from the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine more quickly, thereby reducing pollution to the atmosphere. Furthermore, an exhaust manifold having this structure is lighter and requires less material than conventional exhaust manifolds, thereby making production easier and less costly.

  • Patent number: 6155225
Abstract: A series of resonators are affixed to a vehicle engine air intake pipe path to provide muffling of air intake noises. An air intake port, facing toward the front of the vehicle, has a midsection bent back on itself. A connection opening is provided on the bent-back part. A pipe-form resonator, having a closed-off tip, is bent back on itself in roughly a U-shape at its midsection. A base end of the resonator is joined to the connection opening of the air intake port. This resonator makes it possible to muffle intake sound of frequencies that heretofore could not be absorbed by other affixed resonators.

  • Patent number: 6006712
Abstract: A resonator structure which locates a resonator in a dead space inside an engine compartment, protects the resonator from vibration, and prevents a change in frequency due to oil mist residue in blow-by gas entering the resonator. In an internal combustion engine which is oriented horizontally in a vehicle engine compartment, an air cleaner outlet hose is provided in and connected to the downstream side of an air cleaner. The air cleaner outlet hose is connected to a throttle body, and the throttle body is connected to one end of a surge tank of an intake manifold, which intake manifold is provided at the rear side of the internal combustion engine. The resonator is located at the rear side of the air cleaner outlet hose, downstream from a bellows section of the air cleaner outlet hose, and also downstream from a breather pipe connecting section.

  • Patent number: 5967146
Abstract: A shredded tobacco supplying apparatus for a cigarette manufacturing machine has a supply passage extending toward a conveyor belt, the supply passage is provided with a plurality of air blowing openings arranged at intervals in the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the conveyor, and a straightening plate having a plurality of straightening fins is mounted at the air blowing opening. The straightening fin extends at a predetermined angle toward the front side of the conveyor with respect-to the axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the conveyor. The air injected from the air blowing opening is blown into the supply passage at a predetermined angle with respect to the aforementioned axis. The shredded tobacco reaching the supply passage is discharged toward the belt surface of conveyor belt by using an air flow produced by the air blown from the air blowing openings.

  • Patent number: 5918572
Abstract: On an annular lib 16 formed at the downstream of an upper cylinder portion 3a of an air-cleaner outlet hose 3, a hose connecting portion 3f is formed to which one end of a resonator 6 is connected, and an intermediate portion 6c of the resonator 6 is fastened at a resonator clamp portion 3h formed in a unit with the upper cylinder portion 3a at the upstream. Further, on the above mentioned annular lib 16 provided adjacent to the bellows portion 3c of the air-cleaner outlet hose 3 a suction air temperature sensor 4 is provided at a position which is not opposing to the position of the resonator, and a harness clamp portion 3e of the suction air temperature sensor 4 is provided. Due to the floating support of the resonator, a reduction of the vibration transmission to the vehicle chamber and the number of the parts and the mounting processes is realized, and eventually a cost down is realized.

  • Patent number: 5718249
Abstract: A shredded tobacco supplying apparatus for a cigarette manufacturing machine has a running speed sensor for detecting the belt running speed of a belt conveyor for conveying shredded tobacco, a blow fan for producing an air flow in a shredded tobacco supply passage extending toward the belt conveyor, and a main controller for driving the blow fan in accordance with the output of the running speed sensor. When the blow fan is driven, air is blown from the blow fan into the supply passage at a blowing velocity matching the belt running speed, by which air flow is produced. The shredded tobacco supplied to the supply passage is delivered to the conveyor belt by the air flow. At this time, a velocity component in the belt running direction, which is substantially equal to the belt running speed, is given to the shredded tobacco.

  • Patent number: 4711316
Abstract: A guidance system for an unmanned transporting vehicle which runs along a guide track. The guide track is composed of a belt-shaped light reflective material and laid out on a floor or the like. The unmanned transporting vehicle has two rows of photodetectors longitudinally arranged thereon forwardly of the front wheel. Since the two rows of the photodetectors are spaced apart from each other with a distance less than the width of the guide track, increasingly forwardly photodetectors begin failing to detecting the guide track earlier when the vehicle runs off the guide track. The vehicle is equipped with control means for controlling the steering mechansim of the vehicle in response to the detection count value such that the front wheel is swivelled to correct the vehicle deviation at a sufficiently early stage.
