  • Patent number: 8480163
Abstract: In a center pillar structure, the strength of a center pillar is locally low at a weak portion and at a weak portion. Thus, when a vehicle is hit on the side, the center pillar bends at the weak portion and at the weak portion, and the other vehicle advances substantially horizontally. This can reduce the bending moment generated in the center pillar due to advancement of the other vehicle, so it is possible to control deformation of the center pillar in the event of a side collision while ensuring the strength of the center pillar.

  • Patent number: 8235458
Abstract: Provided is a side part structure of a vehicle capable of efficiently suppressing deformation of a rocker using a center pillar when the rocker begins to buckle due to a load transmitted from the center pillar to the rocker in the event of a side collision or the like, so that the deformation amount of the rocker may be decreased. The side part structure of the vehicle includes a center pillar 2 that extends in the vertical direction, and the lower end of the center pillar 2 is connected to a rocker 1 that extends in the longitudinal direction. A portion bonded to the rocker 1 in the center pillar 2 is provided with a front ridge line 24 and a rear ridge line 25 respectively located at the front and rear sides of the vehicle, and the front ridge line 24 and the rear ridge line 25 are both formed toward the center portion of the width direction of the center pillar 2 and become close to each other as they go downward.

  • Patent number: 8231166
Abstract: A member of a vehicle frame structure includes an extension portion that extends in a longitudinal direction and a kick portion positioned behind, and below the extension portion. Buckling lines are formed in parallel with each other in the extension portion, and each of the buckling lines is inclined such that a lower end is positioned ahead of an upper end in a side view. If a collision load is applied from a front side of a vehicle at the time of vehicle collision, the extension portion is deformed along the buckling lines, and a front end of the extension portion is displaced downward. Therefore, a vertical offset between the front end of the extension portion and the kick portion is reduced, thereby reducing a bending moment applied to the kick portion. Accordingly, the required yield strength of the kick portion can be set to a lower value.

  • Patent number: 8220867
Abstract: A rocker includes a lower wall portion, which is an inclined surface inclined downward toward the inside of a vehicle body, on the lower surface of the rocker, and a floor panel is bonded to the lower wall portion. Accordingly, when an in-plane tensile force is applied to the floor panel the in-plane tensile force is applied not in a direction where the bonding between the rocker and the floor panel is separated but in a direction where the bonding between the rocker and the floor panel is shorn. As a result, it may be possible to improve bonding strength. Further, a corner portion is formed at the end portion of the inclined surface facing the floor panel, and a frictional force is generated at the corner portion between the floor panel and the rocker. Therefore, a load, which is applied to the floor panel, can be distributed to the rocker.

  • Publication number: 20120161475
Abstract: Provided is a vehicle body structure that can increase the strength of desired positions in skeleton constituent members and improve shock-absorbing performance, without causing an increase in the weight of a vehicle. A vehicle body structure includes a front pillar, a center pillar, a roof side rail, and a side sill. A center pillar patch R/F is provided as a first reinforcing portion at a belt line portion of a front pillar outer R/F in the front pillar. Additionally, a high plate-thickness portion is formed as a second reinforcing portion over a region broader than a region including the center pillar patch R/F. Moreover, a high-strength portion is formed as a third reinforcing portion over a region broader than a region including the high plate-thickness portion.

  • Publication number: 20120152675
Abstract: There is provided a shock absorbing structure that can improve shock absorption performance by stabilizing the compressive deformation of a shock absorbing member in an axial direction. High-strength portions controlling deformation and low-strength portions controlling deformation are alternately disposed. Accordingly, when a shock is applied to a front side member from the front side of a vehicle, the front side member can be deformed in the shape of a bellows. Further, the respective low-strength portions, which are disposed closer to a rear end side in a longitudinal direction, have higher strength. Therefore, the front side member can be sequentially deformed from a front end side.

  • Patent number: 8066322
Abstract: A bulkhead and a bulkhead are provided in a rocker so that a portion of the rocker, which portion is subject to bending due to buckling, is positioned between the bulkheads. If the portion of the rocker is bent due to buckling, for example, at the time of vehicle collision, a bulkhead is caught between the bulkheads, and absorbs a load applied to the bulkheads. In this way, when the rocker is deformed, the load is absorbed by the bulkhead.
