  • Publication number: 20110080943
Abstract: A video data compression apparatus with which compressed video data of suitable amounts of data can be produced and the time required for processing is short. The apparatus approximates a real difficulty data Dj indicating the difficulty of the pattern of each picture by the ME residual, flatness, and intra AC and further calculates the target amount of data Tj of the compressed video data from the approximated real difficulty data Dj. An encoder performs compression and coding so that the amount of data of the compressed video data becomes substantially the target amount of data Tj.

  • Publication number: 20110051812
Abstract: A video transmitting apparatus includes: an error receiver that receives, from a video receiving apparatus for receiving a bit stream resulting from encoding of video data including pictures, error information indicating that an error is detected; an encoding-mode selector that selects a propagation-prevention encoding mode as an encoding mode when the error receiver receives the error information; and an encoder that encodes the video data in accordance with the selected encoding mode. In the propagation-prevention encoding mode, intra coding is executed on a forced intra block; a search range is set for a reference encoding unit so as not to include correspondent pixels from a boundary line serving as a boundary between the forced intra block and another block, the correspondent pixels corresponding to the number of adjacent pixels; and a restriction is set on deblocking-filter processing through a change in deblocking-filter setting information.

  • Publication number: 20110026597
Abstract: An apparatus and method provide logic for processing an image. In one implementation, a computer-implemented method is provided to process an image. The method receives information associated with pixels of the image disposed in pixel blocks, and selects one of the pixel blocks as a target block. A motion vector associated with a translation of pixels of a portion of the target block from reference positions in a previously-encoded image is computed at less than integer precision. The method computes predicted image data for the pixels of the target block based on at least the received information and the motion vector, and filters the predicted image data according to a predetermined process. The predetermined process is applied to predicted image data associated with pixels adjacent to a boundary pixel of the target block.

  • Patent number: 7680187
Abstract: A transcoder for executing a re-coding process on an encoded stream generated based on an MPEG standard to generate a re-coded stream having a different GOP (Group of Pictures) structure or bit rate. A decoding device of a transcoder decodes a source encoded stream to generate decoded video data and extracts past coding parameters superposed in the encoded stream as history_stream( ). An encoding device receives the decoded video data and the past coding parameters and uses the past coding parameters to carry out an encoding process in a manner such that this process will not degrade image quality, thereby generating a re-coded stream. The encoding device superposes, as re_coding_stream—info( ), information indicating the selected past coding parameters.
