  • Patent number: 7223728
Abstract: Thiazolidinedione (TZD) and its pharmacologically active derivatives can be used, in combination with agonists of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), to treat non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, optionally with other therapies, by improving glycemic control while minimizing side effects, such as heart hypertrophy and elevated fed-state plasma glucose, which are associate with both TZD and GLP-1 monotherapies. Thus, the co-administration of TZD and GLP-1 helps regulate glucose homeostasis in Type II diabetic patients.

  • Publication number: 20070075019
Abstract: A system for treating wastewater includes a basin to contain wastewater, an aerator provided in the basin to mix the wastewater, and a cover system to cover a surface of the wastewater contained in the basin. The cover system includes a plurality of hollow bodies disposed on the surface of the wastewater. Each hollow body is adapted to float on the wastewater's surface, and has a contiguous outer surface and a sufficient mass so that 30 to 70 percent of the hollow body's outer surface is exposed to atmosphere during use. A method of treating wastewater is further disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20070068174
Abstract: An apparatus for cooling foodstuffs using a thermoelectric cooling module, which is aided by a heatsink formed from a planer sheet into a corrugated fin. The heatsink has a series of land and grooves, which are spaced apart from each other by a substantially planer intermediate portion. The heatsink further includes indentations on the intermediate portion between the lands and grooves, which create a turbulent airflow through the heatsink. The heatsink further includes a plurality of apertures that are formed into the grooves for allowing water to drain out of the heatsink, if any condenses and collects in the grooves of the heatsink.

  • Publication number: 20070046075
Abstract: This invention is related to a mechanism for use in motion furniture that reduces the complexity and links of typical linkage mechanisms. The mechanism has a base plate and a footrest mechanism. The mechanism also includes a seat support link coupled to the footrest mechanism and front and rear pivot links rotatably coupled to the seat support link and slidably and rotatably coupled to the base plate. An ottoman drive link is slidably and rotatably coupled to an intermediate portion of the front pivot link and rotatably coupled to an intermediate portion rear pivot link. A primary ottoman link couples the ottoman drive link and the footrest mechanism. The primary ottoman link is rotatably coupled to the seat support link at an intermediate portion, so that the primary ottoman link and the ottoman drive link cooperate to move footrest mechanism between a closed chair position and an open recliner position.

  • Publication number: 20060273631
Abstract: This invention is related to a mechanism for use in a rocker recliner chair that reduces the complexity and links of typical linkage mechanisms. The rocker recliner chair includes a base, a rocker cam assembly mounted on the base, a seat, a footrest, a backrest and a pair of linkage mechanisms mounted on opposite sides of the chair. Each of the linkage mechanisms includes a recliner mechanism, a drive mechanism, and a footrest mechanism. The recliner mechanism is coupled to the base. The drive mechanism includes an ottoman drive bell crank and an ottoman drive link. The ottoman drive bell crank is coupled to a rear portion of the recliner mechanism. • Publication number: 20060096218
Abstract: An underlayment sheet (10, 10?) is applied in overlapping courses to a roof deck (36) for establishing a weather-resistant membrane for use as a final exposed surface or below a roof covering (50). The underlayment sheet (10, 10?) has a bottom surface (16, 16?) to which a pressure sensitive adhesive section (22, 22?) is applied generally continuously along its length. A non-adhesive section (24, 24?) also extends the length of the bottom surface (16, 16?) adjacent its upper long edge (18, 18?) for providing a contact surface with the roof deck (36) which is devoid of any adhesive material. The non-adhesive section (24, 24?) is attached to the roof deck (36) using tin tags (44, 44?) or other mechanical fastening components. When subsequent underlayment sheets (10, 10?) are applied in overlapping courses, the adhesive sections (22, 22?) bond over the preceding underlayment sheet (10, 10?) to establish a water tight seal.

  • Publication number: 20060010137
Abstract: An intelligent electronic interface with receives a data stream from a predetermined source of data. The interface may collect, compile, manipulate, adjust or otherwise process the data. For example, it may add content to, enhance the appearance of or reformat the data. The data is then transferred via an output to a predetermined peripheral device such as a printer. Perferably, the electronic interface interrupts passage of said data stream from the predetermined source of data to the predetermined peripheral device. The source of the data stream may be intentionally destined for the peripheral. The data may be a receipt text at a point of sale (POS) device, or may be from some other device whose output is to be printed, but which requires further processing to be made printable, such as a weigh-scale. The invention is described with reference to its application at POS terminals, and more particularly in enhancing the content of a printer such as a receipt printer.

  • Patent number: 6744493
Abstract: An in-vacuum radiation exposure shutter device can be employed to regulate a large footprint light beam. The shutter device includes (a) a source of radiation that generates an energy beam; (2) a shutter that includes (i) a frame defining an aperture toward which the energy beam is directed and (ii) a plurality of blades that are secured to the frame; and (3) device that rotates the shutter to cause the plurality of blades to intercept or allow the energy beam to travel through the aperture. Each blade can have a substantially planar surface and the plurality of blades are secured to the frame such that the planar surfaces of the plurality of blades are substantially parallel to each other. The shutter device is particularly suited for operation in a vacuum environment and can achieve shuttering speeds from about 0.1 second to 0.001 second or faster.
