  • Patent number: 10225122
Abstract: Dual sub-carrier modulation (DCM) is introduced in high efficiency (HE) WLAN. DCM is a solution to deal with narrow band interferences and for range extension. DCM can introduce frequency diversity into OFDM systems by transmitting the same information on two subcarriers separated in frequency. If DCM is applied, then the transmitter modulates the same encoded bits onto two separated subcarriers with the same or different constellation mapping schemes. DCM suffers from a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). In accordance with one novel aspect, a method of transmitting and encoding a HE PPDU frame with binary phase shift keying (BPSK) DCM and lower PAPR is proposed.

  • Patent number: 10211948
Abstract: A new lower density parity check (LDPC) tone mapper is proposed when DCM is applied for a given resource unit (RU) when LDPC is used as the channel control coding. For HE PPDU transmission with DCM, LDPC encoded streams are first modulated by a DCM constellation mapper. The modulated symbols of the lower half of the frequency segment and the modulated symbols of the upper half of the frequency segment are modulated using the same LDPC encoded bits using DCM mapping. The modulated symbols of the lower half of the frequency segment are mapped to lower half of the data subcarriers using DCM LDPC tone mapper. The modulated symbols of the upper half of the frequency segment are mapped to upper half of the data subcarriers using the same DCM LDPC tone mapper. Maximum frequency diversity for DCM can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 10206122
Abstract: A method of direction finding (DF) positioning in a wireless location area network (WLAN) is proposed. A multiple antenna IEEE 802.11 transmitting device can transmit signal preamble containing multiple Long Training Field (LTF) symbols in a radio frame from multiple antennas simultaneously, which allows a receiving device to resolve multiple DF sounding signals transmitted from the multiple antennas. As a result, angle of departure (AoD) of the transmitting device can be estimated by using the multiple resolved DF sounding signals from each antenna for DF positioning purpose.

  • Patent number: 10200228
Abstract: A method of interleaver design for dual carrier modulation (DCM) is proposed in a wireless network. For HE PPDU transmission with DCM, information bits are first encoded by a BCC encoder. The BCC encoded bit streams are then interleaved by a BCC interleaver. More specifically, the BCC interleaved bits are repeated on two halves of a given resource unit (RU). The BCC interleaver parameters are defined based on half of the total number of the data tones of the RU if DCM is applied. The BCC interleaved bits are then modulated and mapped to two halves of the RU by a DCM constellation mapper.

  • Patent number: 10187124
Abstract: A method of transmitting and receiving a HE PPDU and perform channel estimation enhancement is proposed. The HE PPDU comprises legacy preamble, HE-STF, HE-LTF, and data. A beam-change indication indicates if the pre-multiplied beamforming Q-matrix is changed from legacy preamble to H-SFT, HE-LTF, and data portion. A value of 1 indicates that Q matrix is changed. A value of 0 indicates that Q matrix is unchanged and receiver should be safe to combine L-LTF and HE-LTF. The beam-change indication can be used to significantly enhance channel estimation at receiver. When there is no beam-change, receiver does not change operation during HE-STF and HE-LTF such that the channel estimations can rely on the combination of L-LTFs, L-SIG, RL-SIG, HE-SIGAs and HE-LTF.

  • Patent number: 10110361
Abstract: A method of sub-channel feedback in OFDMA systems is provided. A wireless receiving device (STA) receives a radio signal from a transmitting device (AP) over a wide channel in an OFDMA system. The radio signal is transmitted over multiple sub-channels of the wide channel. The STA estimates channel quality information based on the received radio signal for each sub-channel. The STA then sends feedback information to the transmitting device. The feedback information comprises the estimated channel quality information for a selected subset of sub-channels from the wide channel based on a predefined rule. In one embodiment, the feedback information is embedded within an ACK/BA frame or is carried in a frame immediately subsequent to the ACK/BA frame.

  • Patent number: 10104493
Abstract: A method of indoor positioning using Fine Timing Measurement (FTM) protocol with multi-antenna access point (AP) is proposed. In a wireless local area network, an AP has multiple antennas that are strategically located in different physical locations. The AP is used to exchange FTM frames with a wireless station for timing measurement of the FTM frames via its multiple antennas independently. The timing measurement result (e.g., timestamps of transmitting and receiving FTM frames) is then used to determine an absolute location of the station. A simplified Indoor Location operation with simplified deployment is achieved.

  • Publication number: 20180295578
Abstract: Systems and methods of transmitting and receiving a Wake-Up Radio (WUR) packet by using a simplified preamble structure that contains no training field. The preamble carries a signature sequence selected from a set of predefined sequences, each corresponding to a different data transmission rate. The preamble and the control information of the WUR packet are transmitted in the same rate as indicated by the selected sequence. Hence, a receiving WUR can determine the data transmission rate and locate the associated control information directly if a sequence that matches a predefined signature sequence is detected. The same sequence or in combination with an additional sequence in the preamble may also be used to indicate automatic gain control synchronization, packet type and other related information.

  • Publication number: 20180184379
Abstract: Systems and methods of transmitting a multi-user (MU) wake-up packet in WLAN including wake-up signals to activate main radios on multiple communication devices via the wake-up radios (WURs). In the multi-user wake-up packet, a frequency channel can be divided into several sub-channels for transmitting multiple wake-up signals in FDMA. Each wake-up signal is modulated in ON/OFF Key modulation. Two adjacent wake-up signals are adequately spaced apart by a certain frequency spacing to reduce adjacent channel interferences. Once a WUR on a receive device receives the packet, it generates a wake-up indication to wake up the main radio for active data communication. The MU wake-up packet may also include a sequence of multiple wake-up signals transmitted using the same sub-channel and cascaded in a time-domain. A reconfiguration window may be inserted between consecutive wake-up signals on the same sub-channel, and between a legacy preamble and the following wakeup signals.

  • Publication number: 20180131469
Abstract: Systems and methods of expanding indication capabilities of existent PPDU preamble fields. The “GI+LTF Size” field is redefined to indicate a new combination of GI duration and HE-LTF size. The redefinition is indicated when the values of the two other existent fields, in combination, indicate an invalid scenario because the two values should have been mutually exclusive. Particularly, the DCM field and the STBC field are both set to the “enabled” mode as an indication for redefine the “GI+LTF Size” field. Upon receiving such a PPDU, a receiver is configured to resolve the PPDU as neither DCM nor STBC is enabled. Rather, the receiver interprets the particular combination of DCM and STBC values as an indication that the “GI+LTF Size” field is redefined to indicate the new combination of GI duration and HE-LTF size.

  • Patent number: 9954594
Abstract: A method of channel estimation enhancement is provided. In a wireless communications system, a transmitting device transmits a long preamble frame comprising a first training field, a signal field, and a second training field. The signal field has a beam-change indicator bit indicates whether there is beam change between the first training field and the second training field. A receiving device receives the long preamble frame, performs a first channel estimation based on the first training field, and performs a second channel estimation based on the second training field. If the beam-change indicator bit indicates negative beam change, then the receiving device performs channel estimation enhancement by combining the first channel estimation and the second channel estimation. As a result, channel estimation performance is improved.

  • Publication number: 20170171796
Abstract: A method of very high throughput (VHT) operation information subfields design for IEEE 802.11 WLAN is proposed. The VHT operation information subfields comprise a channel width, a channel center frequency segment 0 (CCFS0), and a channel center frequency segment 1 (CCFS1). Multiple definitions of the VHT operation information subfields have been adopted by different access points (AP)s and wireless stations (STAs). In accordance with one novel aspect, upon receiving the VHT operation information element broadcasted by an AP, an STA will first check the channel width indicated by the AP. The STA then follows different definitions under different channel widths. Under such method, the STA can support up to 160 MHz operation mode with APs following different definitions and operating up to 160 MHz mode.
