  • Patent number: 8120326
Abstract: A rechargeable battery having a switch connects an internal load to the battery so that the battery can be shifted to a predetermined, lower load state. To shift the rechargeable battery into a lower load state for long-term storage, a Zener diode is connected in series with a resistor and the switch. The rechargeable battery voltage, which corresponds to the predetermined, lower load state, is selected as the breakdown voltage of the Zener diode. Manual actuation of the switch shifts the rechargeable battery to a lower load state, if the current load state is higher than the predetermined, lower load state. A digital version has a digital circuit connected electrically to the switch which is arranged for measuring the rechargeable battery voltage and which in the ON state triggers the switch if the measured rechargeable voltage exceeds a value that corresponds to the predetermined, lower load state.

  • Patent number: 8012618
Abstract: Known rechargeable batteries contain a cell that is received in a cell cup. For monitoring the temperature of the rechargeable batteries, PTC elements are used, but they increase the amount of space needed and can be accommodated in a battery pack only with difficulty. For the sake of simple accommodation, a rechargeable battery has a cell, which is received in a cell cup. According to the invention, for monitoring the temperature of the cell, a temperature-dependent element, in particular a PTC element, is provided that at least partially surrounds the cell cup. The invention is intended in particular for battery packs in which temperature monitoring is required.

  • Patent number: 7759825
Abstract: In a rechargeable battery with a fuse for guarding against external short circuits, to make it possible to design the rechargeable battery independently of the possibly high normal continuous current, it is proposed that a signal connection existing between the rechargeable battery and a device provided for drawing current be utilized. To that end, a switch is provided, which is connected parallel to the fuse and which responds to certain electrical signals of the device. The signals can be delivered to the switch via the signal connection, so that the switch bypasses the fuse, once the signal connection is established and the aforementioned signals occur.
