Abstract: An aircraft is provided including a fuselage and an aft engine. The fuselage defines a top side, a bottom side, and a frustum located proximate an aft end of the aircraft. The frustum defines a top reference line extending along the frustum at a top side of the fuselage, and a bottom reference line extending along the frustum at a bottom side of the fuselage. The top and bottom reference lines meet at a reference point aft of the frustum. The fuselage further defines a recessed portion located aft of the frustum and indented inwardly from the bottom reference line. The aft engine includes a nacelle extending adjacent to the recessed portion of the fuselage such that the aft engine may be included with the aircraft without interfering with, e.g., a takeoff angle of the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 10204193
Abstract: Estimating storm damage on a large scale includes collecting geospatial data from a plurality of sensors disparately situated in a defined geographic area; collecting the geospatial data occurs before and during a determined or simulated significant weather event. Geospatial property attribute information for each of a plurality of real property structures within the defined geographic area is also provided. A supercomputer estimates a magnitude and duration of significant weather event forces at points associated with each of the plurality of real property structures according to a significant weather event model in order to produce at least one model output data set. The model output data set is applied to the geospatial property attribute information and, based on the application of model output data, damage to the plurality of real property structures is automatically estimated.

  • Publication number: 20190009983
Abstract: A shield for a compartment opening of a refuse truck body, comprising an upper segment hinged to the truck body and a lower segment hinged to the upper segment. A source of power selectively pivots the lower segment relative to the upper segment. This enables a first angle of articulation whereby the upper segment covers an upper region of the compartment opening and the lower segment covers a lower region of the compartment opening whereby the shield covers the entire opening of the compartment; a second angle whereby the upper segment covers the upper region of the opening and the lower segment is positioned such that refuse can be swept beneath the lower segment into the lower region of the opening; and a third angle whereby the upper and lower segments fully uncover the compartment opening, whereby refuse can be freely dumped out of the compartment.

  • Publication number: 20190007503
Abstract: Conventional efforts for estimating the geographic location (geolocation) of devices associated with particular Internet Protocol (IP) addresses typically yield woefully inaccurate results. In many cases, the estimated IP geolocations are on the wrong continent. Embodiments of the present technology include techniques for identifying and improving incorrect estimates based on latency measurements, Domain Name Server (DNS) information, and routing information. For example, latency measurements from multiple collectors can be used to rate the plausibility of an IP geolocation estimate and, in certain cases, to increase the accuracy of the IP geolocation estimate. DNS and routing information can be used to corroborate the estimated IP geolocation. The resulting more accurate IP geolocation estimate can be used to route Internet traffic more efficiently, to enforce rules for routing sensitive information, and to simplify troubleshooting.

  • Patent number: 10164592
Abstract: A preamplifier may have a freeze bit that when set, puts the preamplifier in a static state, which prevents the preamplifier from implementing subsequent programming commands. The freeze state may continue until an unfreeze bit is programmed. In a multiple preamplifier system, preamplifiers can be differently and individually configured over a single interface. Preamplifiers may be released from the static state (frozen) by either programming the unfreeze bit (which can release all of the preamps) or by programming the freeze bit to a “0” state (releases the individual preamp). An inversion control circuit can allow inversion of a control signal to a preamplifier. The inversion control circuit may be enabled and disabled based on a physical conductive connection to a logic high voltage or a logic low voltage. One or more programmable control lines can determine whether the inversion function is activated when the inversion control circuit is enabled.

  • Publication number: 20180358126
Abstract: The present disclosure pertains to a system for facilitating computer-assisted care for patients, including, for example, skilled nursing facility (SNF) patients at risk of clinical deterioration and/or in need of medical intervention relative to a larger SNF patient population. In some embodiments, the system determines care information scores for SNF patients using a first set of severity weights associated with individual components of the care information. The system determines SNF enhancement scores for the individual patients using a second set of severity weights associated with individual components of collected SNF enhancement information, wherein the second set of severity weights are heavier than the first set of severity weights such that the enhancement scores are weighted more heavily than the care information scores.

  • Patent number: 10152997
Abstract: Systems and methods of laser bias calibration are presented. A preamplifier circuit may configure a laser current supplied to a laser emitter to be a first laser current of the plurality of laser currents during the writing of one or more first sectors. The preamplifier may further detect one or more gaps in a write power signal while the laser current of the laser emitter is configured to be the first laser current. In response to the detection of the one or more gaps in the write power signal, the preamplifier may configure the laser current supplied to the laser emitter to be a second laser current of the plurality of laser currents during the writing of one or more second sectors. The preamplifier circuit may be utilized in a heat assisted magnetic recording device.
