  • Patent number: 11281621
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for archiving files of a local file system of a client system in a remote storage system. The local file system and the remote storage system are communicatively coupled via a network. The method comprises executing an archive process on an archive computer system communicatively coupled to the network. The archiving is solely controlled by the archive process. The execution causes the archive computer system to receive a configuration comprising share metadata, descriptive of a file share in the local file system, and a network address of the client system; remotely access the local file system using the configuration; scan the files of the file share to identify candidate files for archiving; and archive the candidate files by copying the candidate files to the remote storage system.

  • Patent number: 11267210
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing an optical fiber coupler, having the following method steps: combining two or more light-guiding fibers (1, 2, 3) to form a fiber bundle; introducing the fiber bundle into a capillary (4); collapsing the capillary (4) onto the fiber bundle surrounded by the capillary. It is the object of the invention to provide an improved method for producing an optical fiber coupler. The method is intended to enable the positioning of the fibers within the capillary to be as precise as possible. At the same time, it should be possible to implement the method with comparatively little effort. To this end, the invention proposes that at least one of the fibers (1, 2, 3) is connected at the end to a guide body (5, 5?) whereof the diameter in the direction transversely to the longitudinal extent of the fiber (1, 2, 3) is larger than the diameter of the fiber (1, 2, 3) and smaller than the internal diameter of the capillary (4).

  • Publication number: 20220003930
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for laser-based splicing of a glass fiber (1) onto an optical component (3), comprising the following steps: arranging both surfaces to be spliced substantially parallel to each other and at a predefined distance from each other; and aiming a laser beam (4) at the optical component (3). In order to specify an improved method in which the properties of the joining partners are maintained to the greatest extent during splicing, which exhibits high reproducibility and in particular is suitable for splicing joining partners of different cross-sections, the invention proposes that the angle of incidence of the laser beam (4) on the surface of the optical component be between 15° and 45°.

  • Patent number: 11188423
Abstract: Operating a data processing and storage apparatus to perform continuous backup monitoring for a collection of stored file system objects. In response to changes respective to a number of the file system objects, a set of Data Management Application Program Interface (DMAPI) events is created. For each of the events, accessory file system object information relative to a file system object subject to the change is determined. The events are grouped into an event group and a unique group identifier and an overall group size count are assigned to each of the events included in the event group. The events are sent together with the respective accessory file system object information, the respective group identifier and the respective group size to a number of backup clients registered as applications. The backup clients are to process the events together with the respective accessory file system object information, the respective group identifier and the respective group size into a number of backup requests.

  • Publication number: 20210336968
Abstract: A method, computer program product, and system for detecting and mitigating ransomware using snapshot-based backups applied to a block-oriented storage device, by performing the following operations: (i) performing, in predetermined time-intervals, snapshot backups of data in a block-oriented storage device; (ii) determining at least one interval malware index value between a last snapshot backup and a next planned snapshot backup, wherein the interval malware index value is indicative of a changed block rate in stored data of storage blocks of the block-oriented storage device; and (iii) in response to determining that the interval malware index value is larger than a predefined interval malware index threshold value, triggering an emergency snapshot.

  • Patent number: 10749310
Abstract: The invention relates to a MOPA laser system having at least one laser oscillator (MO), which generates laser radiation at an emission wavelength (?0), and having an optical amplifier (PA) downstream the laser oscillator (MO) in the propagation direction of the laser radiation, which optical amplifier amplifies the laser radiation and thereby spectrally broadens it to a useful bandwidth (??). It is an object of the invention to provide an improved MOPA laser system which is designed for a high power of the amplified laser radiation and which is insensitive to back-reflection. Unavoidable back-reflections should neither affect the output power of the optical amplifier (PA), nor lead to the destruction of the laser oscillator (MO) or other components of the system.

  • Patent number: 10436985
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing an optical waveguide (1), the surface of which is at least partly coated with a coating material. The coating material contained in a target (4) is removed using laser radiation (6) of a processing laser or converted into another aggregate state. The coating material is then deposited on the surface of the waveguide (1) and forms a coating thereon, said coating modifying the light guidance. It is the object of the present invention to provide an improved method for producing optical waveguides, in which guidance of undesired electromagnetic radiation and/or guidance of radiation in undesired areas of the waveguide is avoided. To this effect, the present invention proposes that the laser radiation (7) reflected from the target (4) or transmitted through the target heats-up the waveguide (1), said laser radiation (6) being polarized and impinging the target (4) at a specified angle (?) between 10° and 80° relative to the surface normal.
