    Abstract: A face model providing portion provides an stored average face model to an estimation portion estimating an affine parameter for obtaining a head pose. The individual face model learning portion terminates the learning when a free energy of the individual face model is over a free energy of the average face model, and switches a face model provided to the estimation portion from the average face model to the individual face model. While learning the individual face mode, an observation matrix is factorized using a reliability matrix showing reliability of each observation value forming the observation matrix with emphasis on the feature point having higher reliability.

The field distribution 2 is a field distribution of the phase conjugate light (reverse propagation light) resulting from reversely transmitting from the output port side an output field that is expected to be output from the output port 3-2 when an optical signal is launched into the input port 3-1. According to the field distributions 1 and 2, a spatial refractive index distribution is calculated such that the phase difference between the propagation light and reverse propagation light is eliminated at individual points (x, z) in the medium.

    Abstract: An optical CDMA encoder-decoder is constructed by combining arrayed-waveguide gratings, matrix optical switches, and delay lines, otherwise by combining arrayed-waveguide grating and variable delay lines, thus providing an encoding process that a wavelength change with respect to time in optical pulses. The light includes a wide spectrum band width inserted into a CDMA encoder/decoder and is demultiplexed by arrayed-waveguide gratings. Each wave length according to the demultiplexed spectrum component spreads out in the time region based on delay time differences produced by delay lines having differential optical lengths. Thus, in CDMA, the dependency of wavelengths on delay time can be set arbitrarily.
