The electrowetting oil is immiscible with the electrolyte, a top electrode is in electrical contact with the electrolyte, and the bottom electrode, the top electrode and the electrolyte form a portion of a circuit. The electrowetting elements each further include a first thin film transistor (TFT) that is switched on to select each of the electrowetting elements using active matrix addressing, and a second TFT that is switched on to provide a reset pulse to the portion of the circuit.
