  • Patent number: 4297602
Abstract: A co-ordinate plate for a co-ordinate reader, which utilizes delays of oscillation waves in a magnetostrictive material. The co-ordinate plate is composed of two sheets of magnetostrictive material, which have a common co-ordinate plane and an acoustically insulating sheet therebetween, and in which propagation characteristics of the magnetostrictive oscillation waves are approximate to each other in a direction of a first line formed, on the co-ordinate plane, by the loci of many points having the same one of the two components of their co-ordinates and in a direction of a second line formed, on the co-ordinate plane, by the loci of many points having the other same component of the two components of their coordinates. Two exciting coils are provided for producing magnetostrictive oscillation in the thin plate of magnetostructive material in the directions of the first and second lines. Flux keepers are further provided for shielding magnetix fluxes emanating from the exciting coils.

  • Patent number: 4209495
Abstract: A catalytic converter system for purifying exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine has a catalytic converter of the so-called monolithic type having a catalytic body of a honeycomb shape. The body has an elongated cross-sectional-shaped inlet surface located transverse to the flow of exhaust gas. An exhaust pipe of a relatively small diameter has an end facing the inlet of the catalytic body. In order to direct the exhaust gas to the outermost portion of the elongated inlet of the catalytic body, the exhaust pipe is, on the end facing the inlet, provided with a guiding means for forming one opening on each side of the exhaust pipe in the direction along which the inlet of catalytic body is elongated. The exhaust gas in the exhaust pipe is partly diverted therefrom via the side openings toward the outermost peripheral portion of the inlet of the catalytic body. Accordingly, the catalytic converter can be used to effectively purify exhaust gas.

  • Patent number: 4202022
Abstract: A magnetic transfer record film employed for magneto-optically reading magnetic record patterns. The magnetic transfer record film is formed, as the principal component, of an alloy of a heavy rare earth metal and a transition metal and has an easy axis of magnetization in a direction perpendicular to the film surface and further has an alloy composition included in a range of .+-.10% at the periphery of a center alloy composition where the saturation magnetic moment becomes minimum with respect to a change of the composition within a temperature range used. The magnetic transfer record film is deposited on a transparent substrate and positioned closely to a magnetic record medium on which a magnetic record pattern to be observed is stored, so that the magnetic record pattern is transferred to the magnetic transfer record film. An optical system is provided to magneto-optically read out the transferred magnetic record pattern from the magnetic transfer record film.

  • Patent number: 4187815
Abstract: The intake fuel charge of an internal combustion engine is heated by utilizing the heat from the exhaust gases which are controlled by a valve mounted on a shaft having a counterweight secured to the shaft to control rotation thereof. A stopper which is engaged by the counterweight is provided for limiting the extent of rotation of the shaft and a spiral bimetallic member is arranged with its inner end secured to the shaft and with its outer end adapted to engage the stopper during engine warm up at relatively low ambient temperature conditions. An engagement member is mounted on the bimetallic member to engage the stopper when the second end of the bimetallic member moves in the direction opposite the direction whereby it would normally engage the stopper. The engagement member may be mounted a distance spaced from the outer end or it may be secured in back-to-back relationship with a second stopper member being provided.

  • Patent number: 4186272
Abstract: A code generator which has a plurality of selectable areas on an information plane of an information plate formed with a magnetostrictive material. At least one exciting winding is wound on the information plate at one end thereof for causing at least one magnetostrictive oscillation wave in the magnetostrictive material. A plurality of detecting windings are arranged on the information plate in parallel with the exciting winding to divide the information plane into a plurality of small areas. An information designating detector is pressed against a desired one of the plurality of the small areas. Coded information indicative of a desired one of the small areas is obtained in correspondence to the number of output pulses induced from the plurality of detecting windings until a detected pulse is obtained from the information designating detector by the magnetostrictive oscillation wave resulting from pulse excitation by the exciting winding and propagated in the magnetostrictive material.

  • Patent number: 4179719
Abstract: A magnetic head for reading out the state of magnetization recorded on a magnetic recording medium, in which the magnetic head comprises a substrate of insulating material, an amorphous magnetic thin film, a pair of current terminals, and a pair of voltage terminals. The amorphous magnetic thin film is deposited on the substrate so as to have a width smaller than respective unit areas of magnetic records on a magnetic recording medium to be separately read out therefrom and to have an easy axis of magnetization in a direction perpendicular to the film surface. The current terminals are formed on the substrate for flowing a current in the amorphous magnetic thin film in the lengthwise direction thereof. The voltage terminals are formed on the substrate for deriving from the amorphous magnetic thin film a voltage induced in the transverse direction thereof.
