  • Publication number: 20050062268
Abstract: A head-protecting airbag of the present invention is folded and housed in upper edges of side windows, and is deployable downward when inflation gas flows in between its vehicle's inner wall and outer wall. The airbag includes a protective portion located at side of an occupant's head. The protective portion includes a temporary joint. The joint joins the inner wall and the outer wall together, and separates the inner wall and the outer wall when an inner pressure of the protective portion rises after the protective portion completes development. The airbag of the present invention assures a swift development in an initial stage of inflation, and after completing development, so inflates as to have sufficient cushioning property.

  • Publication number: 20050046160
Abstract: An airbag of the head-protecting airbag device according to the present invention pushes and opens a door portion in a lower edge of an airbag cover, when fed with inflation gas, and protrudes for covering side windows. An assist grip is located in an arrangement area of the airbag cover. The assist grip is secured to vehicle body together with the airbag cover at its fixing portions located in both ends of its grip portion. The airbag cover is provided around each of portions fixed to the vehicle body together with the fixing portions with a breakable portion. When pushed by the inflating airbag, the breakable portion is broken to shift a portion of the airbag cover located toward the door portion inward of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6860506
Abstract: In a head protecting airbag device, an airbag includes an inflation portion and a connection port portion. The connection port portion includes: an outlet side portion having a communication port to the inflation portion at its lower end; and an inlet side portion for inserting an inflator therein. The inflator includes a body portion having a gas discharge port, and a diffuser having a gas outlet port. The diffuser is connected with the body portion so as to cover the gas discharge port, having its two ends forced into contact with the outer circumference of the body portion. The inflator is connected to a connection port portion with good sealing properties and the gas outlet port faces toward the communication port of the connection port portion and thus toward the inflation portion. This head protecting airbag device simplifies the connection structure between the inflator and the airbag while retaining the quick expansion and inflation of the airbag.

  • Publication number: 20050023808
Abstract: An airbag has a lower expansion portion, a central expansion portion, and an upper expansion portion. When the airbag is deployed, the lower expansion portion corresponds to the lumbar region of an occupant, the central expansion portion corresponds to the abdomen of the occupant, and the upper expansion portion corresponds to a shoulder of the occupant. The lower expansion portion is folded upward to be tucked in a pair of fabric sheets forming the central expansion portion. After tucking, the airbag is folded to form a bellows-like portion such that the distal end of the airbag approaches an inflator located in the proximal end of the airbag. After folding to form the bellows-like portion part of the bellows-like portion that corresponds to the upper expansion portion, which has not been tucked, is bent downward substantially by 180° so that the part contacts the front side of part of the bellows-like portion that corresponds to the central expansion portion.

  • Publication number: 20040256843
Abstract: In the head-protecting airbag device according to the present invention, an airbag is folded and arranged inside a vehicle from a front pillar on to a roof side rail in the upper peripheries of a plurality of side windows while being covered by an airbag cover. The airbag inflates when fed with inflation gas, pushes open a door portion formed in the lower periphery of the airbag cover, and then protrudes for covering the side windows. The airbag cover is located below a roof head lining and formed separately from the roof head lining. The airbag cover includes a plurality of parts split in the front-rear direction. The split part located foremost covers the interior side of the front pillar, and is extensively located up to an area rearward of an intersection of the front pillar and the roof side rail. Therefore, the head-protecting airbag device of the present invention has an improved appearance in the side of the front seat.

  • Publication number: 20040232666
Abstract: A side airbag apparatus is mounted on a vehicle having a body and a seat on which an occupant is seated. The seat includes a seat section and a backrest section. A passenger compartment is defined in the body. The apparatus includes a first side airbag and a second side airbag. The first side airbag is deployed and inflated between the occupant and a sidewall of the passenger compartment to correspond to a body part of the occupant that includes a lumbar region. The second side airbag is deployed and inflated between the first side airbag and the sidewall of the passenger compartment to correspond to the lumbar region. Thus, when the airbags are deployed and inflated, the lumbar region of the occupant is pushed so that the entire body of the occupant is moved toward the center of the passenger compartment.

  • Patent number: 6820893
Abstract: In a head protection air bag device, a folded air bag receives inflation gas, and when its inflating operation is completed, inflation parts of front and rear inflatable protective shielding parts as partitioned by partitioning parts generate tensions in the longitudinal direction in the front and rear inflatable protective shielding parts per se. The front and rear inflatable protective shielding parts are interconnected to each other by inflation communicating part under a plate-like portion which blocks the inflow of the inflation gas, at the lower fringe side of the air bag. The inflation communication parts are longitudinally disposed along the lower fringe side of the air bag. Therefore, the front and rear inflatable protective shielding parts are interconnected without reducing the tensions in those parts. As a result, a high tension having the longitudinal direction is generated in the entire lower fringe of the air bag.

  • Patent number: 6749216
Abstract: To reduce damaging of an inner tube in the vicinity of a gas ejection port of an inflator. To the peripheral portion near an end on a gas ejection port side of an inflator, one end of a pipe is fixed. The pipe extends in the axial direction of an inner tube having such flexibility as a cloth, is smaller in the diameter, shorter and higher in rigidity than the inner tube. In the pipe, its leading end is thinner than a part that is an outer portion of the gas ejection port of the inflator. Further, at the peripheral portion of the end of the pipe, a rear-leading end of the inner tube is clamped by a clamp.
