  • Publication number: 20070253053
Abstract: A polarization stabilizing device and method based on controlling the phase retardations of a pair of variable rotators with an optically interposed quarter-wave plate, with a controller such that the first of the variable rotators has its phase retardation switched between first and second values whenever the phase retardation of the second of the variable rotators reaches an upper or a lower limit. The upper and lower limits of the second rotator and the first and second values of the first rotator are chosen so that discontinuities in the power of the output optical radiation are avoided when the first variable rotator is switched, thereby providing endless polarization stabilization using rotators that themselves may have limited retardation ranges.

  • Patent number: 7248315
Abstract: A plurality of reflection films are provided behind a liquid crystal layer of a liquid crystal element, corresponding to predetermined regions in the plural pixels Pix. By the regions of the plural pixels wherein the reflection films are provided, reflection parts Pr are formed that reflects the light that enters from the front side and goes out to the front side by the region where the reflection film is provided, and transmission parts are formed that transmits the light that enters from the back side and goes out to the front side by the other regions of the plural pixels. At the same time, color filters, wherein a plurality of apertures are formed to the parts corresponding to the reflection pars Pr of the pixels Pix, are provided respectively corresponding to the plural pixels Pix, and a planarization transparent film covering the aperture is formed on these color filters.

  • Patent number: 7091434
Abstract: A dial switch disposed on a front surface of a control panel is surrounded by a colored ring which is visible from a front side of the control panel. Behind the front surface of the control panel, an ornamental prism made of a transparent material and a light source are disposed. A colored layer is formed on the rear surface of the ornamental prism so that a ring surrounding the dial switch is visible as a colored ring. The colored ring is visible through the transparent ornamental prism at the daytime and is visible by illumination of the light source in the nighttime. Since no light leaks bypassing the colored layer, the ring is perfectly colored. Since only the flat rear surface of the ornamental prism is covered with the colored layer, the ornamental prism can be manufactured in a simple process.
