    Abstract: An exemplary system includes an access management facility and a message processing facility communicatively coupled to the access management facility. The access management facility is configured to generate and activate an access code, and initiate providing of the access code to a potential message source. The message processing facility is configured to receive an incoming message, determine whether the incoming message includes the access code, deliver the incoming message to a user if the incoming message is determined to include the access code, and not deliver the incoming message to the user if the incoming message is determined not to include the access code. In certain implementations, the access code is used in conjunction with a set of authorized message sources for selectively filtering the incoming message. In certain implementations, at least one tool is provided, the tool being configured to enable the user to manage the access code.

    Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for customizing messages. The apparatus includes a communications unit and a processing unit. The communications unit can be configured to receive a message from a sender and intended for one or more target recipients. The communications unit can also be configured to receive one or more message customization indicators that are from either or both of the sender and respective ones of the target recipients. The message customization indicators are respectively related to identifying characteristics of the respective target recipients and the sender when provided by the sender and respective ones of the target recipients. The processing unit can be configured to cause respective output versions of the message to be outputted to the target recipients, each respective output version being output in a format consistent with the message customization indicators and at least one of the respective output versions being different from another of the respective output versions.

    Abstract: Methods and systems for connecting a call using a name or series of characters are disclosed. A user provides data pertaining to a call from the user to a called party. The data includes name information that corresponds to the called party. A query may be sent to a global name database to search for a telephone number that corresponds to the name information. During the search, a determination may be made as to whether the global name database has multiple telephone numbers that correspond to the name information. When the name information corresponds to multiple telephone numbers, one of the telephone numbers is selected based on preference information associated with the user. Thereafter, the call is routed to a device associated with the selected telephone number.
