    Abstract: Various features presented herein facilitate early data transmission (EDT) in eMTC and NB-IoT. In certain aspects, a UE (e.g., an eMTC and/or NB-IoT type device), may receive an indication in a SIB from a base station that may enable EDT by the UE. The UE may transmit a random access request based on the SIB. The UE may further receive an MCS index in an RAR, and transmit a connection request (e.g., Msg3) to the base station based on the MCS index and the indication in the SIB. Some aspects described herein relate to an improved rate matching technique. In certain aspects, a UE may be configured to transmit a connection request message to a base station based on at least one of an increased number of RVs than a number of RVs for other transmissions from the UE or rate matching performed across more than one subframe.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that support channel quality reporting using random access messages. A user equipment (UE) may receive a random access message from a base station and respond with an indication of channel quality information for a communication link between the base station and the UE. The indication may be generated by a single protocol layer of a control plane protocol stack (e.g., a radio resource control (RRC) or media access control (MAC) layer). The channel quality information may be included in the RRC message or in a header of the MAC layer from the UE. The UE may transmit, to the base station, an indication of identified channel quality information. Upon receiving the response message from the UE, the base station may determine communication parameter(s) (e.g., coding rate, modulation order, number of repetitions of a channel) for future communications with the UE.

    Abstract: A method for early termination of an ongoing uplink transmission based on implicit HARQ-ACK is disclosed. A wireless device may receive a first grant for a first uplink transmission and may begin repetitions of the first uplink transmission. The wireless device may receive a second grant for a second uplink transmission during the ongoing first uplink transmission. The wireless device may determine if the second grant is an implicit HARQ-ACK and may perform an early detection of the HARQ-ACK. The wireless device may terminate early the first uplink transmission based on the detection of the HARQ-ACK. Allowing the wireless device to terminate the first uplink transmission through an implicit HARQ-ACK frees up channel resources and saves power. The wireless device may also start the second uplink transmission earlier than a schedule time based on the early detection of the HARQ-ACK, eliminating the waste of unused uplink resources and saving power.

The UE may determine which of the available radio access technologies are suitable for idle cell reselection (e.g., inter-radio access technology idle cell reselection, intra-radio access technology idle cell reselection) according to the UE capabilities, which may be related to a UE category or UE usage mode (e.g., voice centric mode, data centric mode) of the UE, etc. The UE may transmit a signal indicating the UE capabilities to a network entity (e.g., a serving cell). The network entity may receive the signaling and determine suitable radio access technologies for the idle cell reselection, and transmit a set of parameters in a message for the UE to use as part of the idle cell reselection.

    Abstract: A user equipment device (UE) may create efficient Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) status reports. The UE may receive PDCP packets from multiple radio access technologies (RATs) using the same bearer or same RAT using split bearers. The UE may identify packets that the UE should have received but did not, and may create a status report based on the sequence numbers (SNs) of the packets that the UE failed to receive or based on the SNs of the successful packets. The report may include the SNs of the packets, in addition to a bit-length of the SNs and/or a starting point of the SNs in the status report. Alternatively, the report may include the SN of a first packet that the UE failed to receive and offset values (relative to the SN of the first packet) for the other packets that the UE failed/succeed to receive.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods and devices for a handover procedure which may include a user equipment (UE), first base station, and a second base station. In one aspect, the UE can receive an indication to handover from the first base station to the second base station. The UE may then establish a connection with the second base station. In another aspect, the UE can maintain a connection with the first base station over a period of time during the handover. The UE can also communicate with the first base station and the second base station during the period of time based on a time division multiplexing (TDM) pattern. The TDM pattern can comprise a pattern of subframes for communicating with the first and second base station. In another aspect, the UE can release the connection with the first base station at the end of the period of time.

A user equipment (UE) may measure a physical channel such as a narrowband physical broadcast channel (NPBCH) to supplement (e.g., or as an alternative to) reference signal measurements when determining a received signal measurement, such as a received signal strength or received signal quality of a cell. A base station may transmit an indication to a UE that identifies the frequency at which a portion of NPBCH transmissions (e.g., reserved fields of a master information block (MIB)) is expected to change from one NPBCH transmission to another. The UE may adjust its utilization of NPBCH for determining the received signal measurement based on the indication. Further, the UE may communicate with the cell based on the determination of the received signal measurement, which are based on the indication.
