  • Publication number: 20140350081
Abstract: An approach to identify and evaluate potential insecticide targets using publicly available genome (DNA) sequence information for arthropod disease vector is provided. The utility of this approach is demonstrated by first determining the molecular and pharmacological properties of two different dopamine (neurotransmitter) receptors identified in the genome of the yellow fever- and dengue-transmitting mosquito, Aedes aegypti. Next, different chemistries were tested for their ability to interact with one of these dopamine receptors in a chemical compound screen, and “hit” compounds were identified. Finally, it is shown that some of these chemistries, are selective for the mosquito over the human dopamine receptor and that these chemistries caused significant mortality in mosquito larvae 24 hours after exposure.

  • Patent number: 8894345
Abstract: The multi-functional vehicular ramp is an accessory that attaches to a trailer hitch of a pickup truck and which include foldable ramp members that fold down to enable ATVs or other wheeled objects to drive up onto a bed of a pickup truck for transport, and wherein the foldable ramp members can fold up to secure said wheeled object to said pickup truck bed. The multi-functional vehicular ramp can also adapt to attach wheels thereon for use as a trailer to be towed via one of a multitude of adaptors behind a truck or other motor-powered vehicle. The multi-functional vehicular ramp may also be adaptively used to suspend an object above the ground by extending the foldable ramp members upwardly and connection there between via a suspension member. The multi-functional vehicular ramp may also adapt for use as a workbench or as a picnic table.

  • Patent number: 8891718
Abstract: A system for simultaneous transmission (1) of Morse signaling over a radio communication using digital technology, comprising a signal generator (2) with at least one digital modulation which includes at least one amplitude modulation component; a Morse code generator (3) that generates Morse tones in analog form; and a first attenuator module (4), controlled by the Morse code generator (4). In this way, a signal with digital modulation generated by the signal generator (2) is attenuated in amplitude by the first attenuator module (4), the amplitude attenuation being the function of the amplitude of the waveform generated by the Morse code generator (3). In this way the transmission of information by digital modulation is simultaneous with the transmission of the Morse code by analog amplitude modulation (AM), using one single radiofrequency (RF) carrier signal and without service interruption or information loss.

  • Publication number: 20140331590
Abstract: The objective of this invention is to enable a rapid construction of affordable, disaster-resistant real estate structures. Inventors present a building block construction of an ornamental shape and design as described herein, a corresponding interlock system, and a method of assembling novel structural elements and elements of known design into a cohesive building structure. The novel construction blocks, interlocks and panels form a cooperatively organized communicating chamber for receiving a cement-based substance, for example a cement-based concrete or mortar mixture, hence comprising a monolithic building structure.

  • Publication number: 20140328866
Abstract: The peptides described herein can function as carrier peptides. These peptides can associate with (e.g., non-covalently bind) biologically active molecules or imaging agents to transport the biologically active molecules or imaging across the blood-brain barrier. In some cases, such transport may increase the effectiveness of the biological molecules or imaging agents.

  • Publication number: 20140238592
Abstract: Electronic components are often assembled using robotic equipment, such as pick-and-place machines, that is not optimized for components such as ultra-thin semiconductor bare dice. Selective laser-assisted die transfer is described based on the unique blistering behavior of a multilayer dynamic release layer when irradiated by low energy focused laser pulse(s) in which the blister creates translation of the article being placed. Accurate placement results are provided with negligible lateral and angular displacement.

  • Publication number: 20140244290
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method which allows a prospective insured to make an informed decision on healthcare insurance or a specific health care management decision by using a current medical profile to assist in their selection. Based on past medical care, as obtained from payor data, a number of different plans, each having different providers, different deductibles, different maximums, different reimbursement policies, etc., a person can make an informed decision. When a family has different payors for different family members, a proper blend of payors can be more easily selected since the payors (or a single payor) has a medical profile of each family member and also has information on providers in the network, prescription policies, deductibles, maximums, etc.
