  • Patent number: 8738801
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for updating documents in a distributed network. When a new document needs to be added to the network, or when changes are to be made to an existing document, keywords are extracted from the document and used to generate update messages for each keyword. The nodes responsible for each keyword are determined. The individual update messages are consolidated into a composite update messages that is sent to a first node in the network. The first node extracts those portions of the composite message associated with it, and forwards the composite message to a second node in the network.

  • Patent number: 8607051
Abstract: Techniques for binding multiple authentications for a peer are described. In one design, multiple authentications for the peer may be bound based on a unique identifier for the peer. The unique identifier may be a pseudo-random number and may be exchanged securely between the peer, an authentication server, and an authenticator in order to prevent a man-in-the-middle attack. Data for all authentications bound by the unique identifier may be exchanged securely based on one or more cryptographic keys generated by all or a subset of these authentications. In another design, multiple levels of security may be used for multiple authentications for a peer. The peer may perform a first authentication with a first authentication server and obtain a first cryptographic key and may also perform a second authentication with the first authentication server or a second authentication server and obtain a second cryptographic key. The peer may thereafter securely exchange data using the two keys using nested security.

  • Publication number: 20130318584
Abstract: After authentication, one or more messages are generated by one or more devices that are operatively coupled via a communications network to a computer. Based on receipt of user input in a module in a device, a message transmitted by each device (in reliance on the authentication) includes information that is normally internal to the device and indicative of interaction of a user with the device. For example, the message may include an identifier of the device and internal information in the form of an identifier of the module (hardware and/or software), with which the user is interacting. Based on one or more such messages, at least one processor in the computer determines and stores in memory, a state of the user indicative of the user's situation. The user's state may be used in any manner, e.g. to trigger a function in an application or to start a new application.

  • Publication number: 20130084882
Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein provide for assisted context determination through the use of one or more servers remote to a mobile device. The one or more servers can receive location and/or other information from the mobile device and select, from a list of possible activities, a smaller list of activities a mobile device user is likely engaged in. The one or more servers can return the smaller list to the mobile device, which can use the smaller list to make a faster context determination. In creating the smaller list, the one or more servers can utilize information regarding a region in which the mobile device is located, which can be updated and modified using information received from mobile devices. Furthermore, the one or more servers can gather and share information from nearby mobile devices, enabling a mobile device to use information from nearby mobile devices to facilitate a context determination.

  • Publication number: 20130080457
Abstract: One or more mobile devices make measurements while moving along a path. Each measurement may comprise a specific group of identifiers of wireless transmitters, and strengths of corresponding wireless signals. A set of measurements are made in a sequence along a path, and the subsets of the measurements are identified for satisfying a test on a value of a measure of similarity of measurements included in the subset. A new place of relevance is identified, by comparing the just-described subsets of the measurements with similar subsets of additional measurements (e.g. by clustering). Alternatively, a known place of relevance (e.g. having a label) is identified, by comparing the just-described subsets of the measurements with pre-computed model of measurements. Also, the just-described subsets of the measurements may be compared with corresponding subsets of measurements of another path, e.g. to identify common portions therein.
