Abstract: The invention relates to a method for optimizing the energy balance of a forming section in a machine for producing fibrous webs, in which a fiber suspension, which is fed to the forming section by way of a material ramp after the immobility point is reached, is passed through at least two dewatering units within a compression zone and to a subsequent functional unit. The invention is characterized in that a setpoint value for a target dryness to be set is predefined based on the existing dewatering elements as a function of a theoretical maximum achievable dryness under plant conditions in the area of the transition zone, said setpoint being selected such that it is less than the theoretical maximum achievable dryness but is equal to or greater than a required minimum dryness in the area of the transition zone, and that the target dryness is controlled by lowering the inlet dryness at one of the last dewatering units disposed in the direction of passage of the fiber suspension within the compression zone.

Abstract: A carrier structure (100), particularly for optical components, includes a carrier body (10) which is formed from ceramic with hollows (11), and at least one cover layer (21, 22) which is formed from glass, arranged on at least one surface of the carrier body (10), and is connected to the carrier body (10) by means of at least one bond connection (23, 24) produced by means of anodic bonding. Methods for producing the carrier structure (100) and the use of the carrier structure as a mirror body, carrier for optical components and/or mechanical carrier for dynamically moved components are also described.

Abstract: A 3-D camera for obtaining an image of at least one surface of at least one object. The camera comprises a light source, arranged to illuminate the object, wherein a light beam emitted from the light source defines a projection optical path. The camera also includes at least one first aperture having a first predetermined size, interposed in the projection optical path such that the light beam passes through it. An image sensor receives light back-scattered by the object, the back-scattered light defining an observation optical path. At least one second aperture having a second predetermined size, is interposed in the observation optical path such that the back-scattered light passes through it. In one example embodiment of the invention, the first predetermined size is greater than the second predetermined size, and at least one optic is arranged in both the projection and observation optical paths.

Abstract: A method of synthesizing semiconductor nanostructures of at least one semiconductor material (e.g. nanowires, nanorods, nanoribbons, nanodots, quantumdots, etc.) is described which includes the steps of placing a solid catalyst particle on a substrate, placing the combination of the said substrate and the said solid catalyst in a chamber of low oxygen partial pressure, below I×10?2 mbar, adding one or more gaseous reactants comprising at least one of said semiconductor material and a suitable precursor therefor and heating the said combination to a temperature above 200° C. but below the melting point of the solid catalyst particle. Nanostructures made by the method are also claimed.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for analyzing image processing procedures, in which unprocessed original image data is stored, stored original image data is retrieved, retrieved original image data is processed, the individual processing steps during the processing of the image data are in some instances stored together with the respective processing step parameter values, and the processed image data is stored such that it can be assigned to the processing steps stored during its processing and in some instances processing step parameter values. According to the invention the processed image data is analyzed statistically and the result of the statistical analysis is stored such that it can be assigned to the stored processing steps and in some instances processing step parameter values. The original image data is optionally included in the statistical analysis of the processed image data.

Abstract: A system and method is described for managing the release of information from a personal electronic health record (EHR). A central data warehouse maintains at least a part of the HER along with at least a copy of a patient's permission plan for the release of data to others in the health care system. Requests for information may be made by addressees, each addressee possessing credentials. The system and method compares the credentials of the addressee with the personal permissions plan and releases the information permitted by the permissions plan. Where information is denied by the plan, the patient may be offered the opportunity to modify profiles of the plan so as to permit the release of information. The patient may be provided with background information on the need for release of the data, and legal aspects of the release of the data so as to make an informed choice.

Abstract: A system and method for optimizing status of a care plan is described, the method including defining a care plan as worksteps associated by a rule-based process. Historical data is collected for a plurality of worksteps for such attributes as diagnosis, clinical outcome and cost. The data may be analyzed by data mining techniques so as to discover the optimum relationships between the patient symptoms, the worksteps and a success criteria. The success criteria may include correct diagnosis, equipment use efficiency, cost, and successful clinical outcome. The rule-based process may be modified to take account of the optimum relationships. A patient presenting with a constellation of symptoms may have the symptoms compared with care plans success ranking to determine an optimum care plan.

Abstract: A system and method dynamically update the status of a care plan to be performed at different locations. Worksteps of the care plan may be performed at a number dispersed medical facilities and/or specialists. Data regarding a workstep may be locally entered at the facility that performs the workstep. A virtual representation of the care plan may then be updated, and subsequently remotely accessed via a communications network by other medical facilities to view the current status of the care plan. For instance, before a current workstep is performed, medical personnel may view textual information detailing and images acquired during the performance of a previous workstep performed at a different facility. As a result, an effective and efficient means of transferring information regarding the patient and care plan among medical facilities is provided. Additionally, the performance of each medical facility and individual specialist may be evaluated and the results displayed.

Abstract: A method and a software product is described for managing the evolution of changes and updates to a patient identification system. In a patient identification system, the data may have errors or inconsistencies which preclude automatic matching of the data for an input data record, representing a person being admitted to a hospital, with a patient object in a data base, the patient object representing a unique individual. The method includes identifying the input data records that cannot be automatically matched, and manually matching the records to objects. The manual steps are recorded and used to develop updates to the software product. The input data is again processed by the patient identification method and the amount of improvement in, or the error in, the association is used to determine when the updated software may be installed.
