  • Patent number: 7101966
Abstract: Autographa californica nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcNPV) is a baculovirus widely employed as a vector for the expression of foreign genes and pest control. Although baculoviruses efficiently replicate in the nuclei of arthropod cells, the dynamics and mechanism of DNA replication within the infected cell are still poorly understood. Thus, to study such viral DNA replication, the availability of peptide ligands specific for DNA-binding protein (DBP) is needed. This work resulted in the selection of peptide ligands specifically binding to DBP for AcNPV from the FliTrx™ random peptide display library, which entails the amplification, cloning of the DBP gene from AcNPV, the construction of the expression plasinid for DBP, and the expression and purification of the recombinant His.Tag AcNPV DBP which was used as a target molecule for the selection of the peptide ligands. The affinity of peptide ligands was measured by ELISA procedures.

  • Publication number: 20060150694
Abstract: A shield device is for fastener(s) of a lock assembly that is adjustable between inoperable and operable states, each fastener including a head and being removably engageable with a door to connect the lock assembly therewith. The shield device includes a barrier displaceable between a first position, where the barrier covers the fastener head to prevent removal of the fastener, and a second position where the fastener is accessible to permit removal. The barrier is disposed in the first position when the lock is in the inoperable state and in the second position when the lock is in the operable state. Preferably, the lock assembly includes a member that adjusts the lock assembly between the operable and inoperable states and the barrier is coupled with the member. As such, when the lock member adjusts the lock assembly between the two states, the barrier displaces between the first and second positions.

  • Publication number: 20060144447
Abstract: The controller of the plural component proportioner (10) dispenses both components (or all three if a three component material) simultaneously (at least initially) and maintains ratio at the end of each predetermined volume of material by determining which component pump (12) has reached the desired amount of travel (given the resolution available) and using a valve (16) to shut off output of that pump until the other side has caught up. At pump changeover, the output valve for that pump (12) is shut off and the air motor (12a) allowed to run until travel stops to account for cavitation, air entertainment, compressibility, or poor inlet check performance.

  • Publication number: 20060026284
Abstract: In order to provide for efficient security of a remote presentation (such as a remote display) on a client which presents user interface data from a remote server, all requests for action to be performed on the client are examined to determine if they are requests for user interface (UI) presentation. If the request is for UI presentation, it is verified to ensure that the request is valid—e.g., that it comes from an approved source. If the request is a valid UI request, then the request is served. If a UI request cannot be verified, the request is served, if possible, without presenting the user interface data from the request—e.g., by hiding visual data, or playing audio data at zero or minimal volume. Otherwise, the request is not serviced and the connection from the client to the server may be terminated.

  • Patent number: 6924102
Abstract: The present invention concerns the development of a quantitative method for the molecular diagnosis of autosomal recessive spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) by measuring the amount of cytosolic mRNA from human muscle cells. Both the procedure using radioactive material and the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) nonradioactive method were developed using 32P-dCTP labeled and biotinylated nucleotide probes. The results obtained demonstrate that the measurement of mRNA could be used as a quantitative method for the molecular diagnosis of SMA. There was a perfect concordance of the results obtained between the procedure using radioactive material, the ELISA method and the single strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) analysis regarding the negative and positive SMA samples.

  • Publication number: 20050099403
Abstract: Disclosed is a “keyboard overlay” that sits on top of a touch-sensitive display screen of a computing device. After aligning the overlay on the display screen, the user types on the overlay. When the user presses a key on the overlay, the pressure is transmitted to the display screen below. That pressure is registered by the display screen as a touch. The keyboard overlay is formed to provide tactile finger-position feedback so that a user can keep his fingers oriented properly over the keyboard. The overlay may be opaque with keycap information displayed in the key areas. The overlay may be transparent, allowing a user to see a virtual keyboard painted on the display screen below. The computing device can detect the presence and type of an overlay. Applications may respond differently to different types of overlays. Different applications may be invoked depending upon the type of overlay detected.

  • Publication number: 20050052432
Abstract: Disclosed are a method and a system for detecting multiple, simultaneous touches on a touch-sensitive screen of a computing device. The hardware that controls the touch screen performs two measurements to locate a touch location on the screen. If there is a single touch, then the two measurements are equal. A non-zero difference indicates multiple touches and is correlated with the spread of locations simultaneously touched on the screen. If the difference is greater than a set threshold, then an indication is given of multiple touches. The user is warned against multiple touches, and input from the screen is ignored as long as multiple touches are detected. For some embodiments, when multiple touches are detected, the invention also tries to indicate the boundary of the set of locations simultaneously touched. The boundary is used to interpolate the intended single touch from the locations of all the touches.
