  • Patent number: 10536847
Abstract: Data in a portable electronic device is protected by using external and internal status detection means to determine if the device is misplaced, lost, or stolen. The device then takes, singly or in combination, one of several actions to protect the data on the device, including declaring its location to an owner or service provider, locking the device or specific functions of the device to disable all data retrieval functionality, erasing or overwriting all the stored data in the device or, where the data has been stored in the device in an encrypted format, destroying an internally-stored encryption key, thereby preventing unauthorized access to the encrypted data in the device.

  • Publication number: 20190311031
Abstract: Techniques for automatic proofing of textual data is described. In one embodiment, these techniques are directed towards producing proofed textual data for various operational environments via logic operative on a logic circuit to access information comprising a set of n-grams, at least one mapping between at least one replacement n-gram and a corresponding n-gram in the set of n-grams, and a corresponding confidence score for each mapping being determined by user activity while producing text for various applications; process input to a productivity application comprising textual data and identify a portion thereof to replace based upon the accessed information; and automatically modify the portion of the textual data using a replacement n-gram selected from the replacement n-grams based upon a corresponding confidence score between the portion of the textual data and the replacement n-gram. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 10424278
Abstract: A bell and method of tuning a bell with its lowest frequency partials at f1=f and f2=3f=2. The simultaneous presence of physical tones at these partial frequencies yields a difference tone, perceived by the listener, at f2f1=3f=2f=f=2. The difference tone is subharmonic, in that its perceived frequency (f=2) is below the frequency of the fundamental (f). Preferably, the bell has one or more additional partials at frequencies fn=(n+1)f=2, with n 2 f3; 4; 5: : : g, strengthening the listener's perception of the difference tone at f=2. The bell thus yields a strike tone at f=2 but has a characteristic dimension (e.g. height or diameter) equal to that of conventional bells with a strike tone at f, providing art eightfold savings in bell mass.

  • Patent number: 10352916
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a system and method for accurate, field-ready, non-destructive, and three-dimensional plant root characterization using acoustic signals. The system is portable, fast, precise, and can be used in field conditions, including moist soil, to visualize root structure or mass distribution, without damaging growing crops. The system may also be applied to characterize other underground objects, such as pipes, building foundations, archaeological artifacts, or mineral ores. During operation, the system generates a source acoustic signal. The system sends the source acoustic signal to an actuator acoustically coupled directly to a plant. The system obtains a response acoustic signal from an underground transducer monitoring a root of the plant. The system analyzes the response acoustic signal according to a model and based on the source acoustic signal. The system then determines, based on the analyzed response acoustic signal, a physical configuration of the plant root.
