  • Patent number: 9582278
Abstract: A system for generating processor hardware supports a language for significant extensions to the processor instruction set, where the designer specifies only the semantics of the new instructions and the system generates other logic. The extension language provides for the addition of processor state, including register files, and instructions that operate on that state. The language also provides for new data types to be added to the compiler to represent the state added. It allows separate specification of reference semantics and instruction implementation, and uses this to automate design verification. In addition, the system generates formatted instruction set documentation from the language specification.

  • Publication number: 20160138350
Abstract: Method for controlling bottomhole pressure in a borehole during managed pressure drilling. In the drilling procedure fluid is circulated down a drillstring and to surface through an annulus between the drillstring and an inner-wall of the borehole. A compressor/pump is used to inject gas into the returning drilling fluid at a gas injection point. The method comprises receiving a target bottomhole pressure; determining actual bottomhole pressure during the procedure; and adjusting a variable as directed by a feedback controller, which operates to reduce the difference between the target pressure and the measured pressure. The manipulated variable may be one or any combination of: (1) pressure of drilling fluid at the entry of the fluid into the drillstring, (2) the flow rate of drilling fluid out of the drillstring into the annulus, (3) pressure of the gas exiting from the compressor, and (4) the injection rate of the gas.

  • Publication number: 20150364063
Abstract: A reusable and replaceable tool label has a thin rigid body, an adhesive coating, and a removable liner. The thin rigid body is built from first face and a second face, which are connected by a lateral surface. The first face is a writable surface, and is used to record measurements, notes, and other information to the label. The second face allows the label to be attached to tools and other surface, by means of the adhesive coating that is placed on the second face. To prevent the label from sticking to a surface during packaging, transport, and storage, a removable liner is placed over the adhesive coating. The removable liner has a linear cut that makes the removable liner easier to grab. A tab may be connected to the removable linear to make peeling the removable liner away from the adhesive coating even easier.

  • Publication number: 20150247396
Abstract: A method for automating a downhole milling process includes receiving an input stream from at least one sensor within a downhole milling system, and segmenting the input stream. A safe operating envelope is identified based on segments of the input stream and models for the segments. At least one parameter of the milling system is then automatically changed along a path of optimal rate of penetration while remaining within the safe operating envelope. In some embodiments, an input stream may include surface pressure and the safe operating envelope may include swarf transport conditions.

  • Patent number: 8899352
Abstract: This disclosure relates in general to a method and system for controlling a drilling system for drilling a borehole in an earth formation. More specifically, but not by way of limitation, embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for controlling dynamic interactions between the drilling system for drilling the borehole and an inner surface of the borehole being drilled to steer the drilling system to directionally drill the borehole. In another embodiment of the present invention, data regarding the functioning of the drilling system as it drills the borehole may be sensed and interactions between the drilling system for drilling the borehole and an inner surface of the borehole may be controlled in response to the sensed data to control the drilling system as the borehole is being drilled.

  • Patent number: 8894845
Abstract: Hydrocarbon feedstreams are desulfurized using an alkali metal reagent, optionally in the presence of hydrogen. Improved control over reaction conditions can be achieved in part by controlling the particle size of the alkali metal salt and by using multiple desulfurization reactors. The processes herein allow a simple and effective method for removing the majority of coke formed in the alkali metal reagent reactions with the hydrocarbon feedstreams. This makes it cost effective to run such processes at higher severities (which result in higher coke production) thereby resulting in increased amounts of valuable converted hydrocarbon product yields. The process improvements herein may also be used to increase total throughput through a unit due to the ability to effectively manage higher coke content in the reaction products.
