  • Patent number: 7387493
Abstract: A rotary impeller assembly is for a fluid machine and includes a support member having an outer surface and blades connected to the support member. Each blade includes first and second integral portions, the blade first portion having a first thickness and being spaced from the base surface and the blade second portion is disposed against the support member outer surface and has a second thickness. The second thickness is substantially greater than the first thickness such that the blade has greater stiffness proximal to the support and a lesser stiffness generally distal from the support. Preferably, the blades are connected with the support welds between each blade sidewall and the support member. Further, each blade first portion is sized such that the blade first thickness is maintained in a significant area of the blade spaced from the weld(s) so as to allow blade flexure away from the weld.

  • Publication number: 20070056905
Abstract: A continuous integrity test is performed on membranes in a membrane filtration system during the backwashing phase. The membrane pores are backwashed by applying a gas at a pressure below the bubble point to liquid permeate within the membrane lumens to displace the liquid permeate within the lumens through the membrane pores. An integrity test is performed on the membranes by allowing the gas pressure on the lumen side of the membrane walls to increase to a predetermined level above the pressure on the other side of the membrane walls, then isolating the lumen side of the membranes and measuring the reduction in gas pressure on the lumen side of the membrane walls resulting from gas passing through the membrane walls over a predetermined period. The measured reduction in pressure is then compared against a predetermined value to determine the integrity of said membranes.

  • Patent number: 7076875
Abstract: A method is provided for manufacturing a compound helically toothed planet gear for a planetary gear set wherein the individual gear elements of the compound planet gear have different leads. The method identifies and utilizes the several factors affecting gear timing for compound helical planet gears having different leads to provide planet gears capable of attaining equal load share among the several gears of the planetary gear set. Specifically, the method of the present invention utilizes a mounting shoulder and bore axis to provide common locating features for use throughout the manufacturing process The method further provides for bore honing and removal of equal amounts of material from both sides of each gear tooth in the gear finishing process so as not to alter gear timing between the compound gear elements.

  • Publication number: 20050039599
Abstract: A method of continuously capturing BioOil and its constituents from a gas stream produced in a fast pyrolysis/thermolysis process, in a usable liquid form so as to produce a non-condensable gas free of fouling contaminates. The method includes separating BioOil and its constituents from a gas stream using hot inertial separation to maintain the temperature of said BioOil and its constituents above a temperature at which the thick and/or sticky constituents cause inefficient operation of the equipment but low enough so that they do not undergo rapid degradation. Next the gas velocity is reduced to a temperature sufficiently low to allow droplets in the gas stream to settle out but high enough so that a viscosity of said droplets remains low enough to avoid inefficient operation of the separation equipment. Finally, liquid is condensed out of the gas stream.
