  • Patent number: 6251021
Abstract: The invention relates to a drive assembly comprising a constant velocity fixed joint 1 with an outer part 4 provided with a flange 7, and a damping element 3 in the form of a ring. The damping element 3 is arranged between the flange 7 and, respectively, the flange-like portion of a cover 19 closing the outer part 4 and the attaching part 20. The damping element 3 includes an aluminum material whose modulus of elasticity greatly deviates from that of the outer part 4, so that any structure-borne sound vibrations originating from the drive end, for example from a drive unit of a motor vehicle, cannot be transmitted from the attaching part 20 into the driveline which includes the constant velocity fixed joint 1. In this way, vehicle comfort is improved.

  • Patent number: 6217456
Abstract: The invention relates to a telescopic shaft as used, for example, in a connecting shaft between two joints of a driveshaft. The telescopic shaft comprises an outer part (6) and an inner part (12) and a cage (15) arranged therebetween. In the inner face of the outer part (6), there are arranged outer running grooves (10) which extend parallel to the longitudinal axis (5). In the inner part (12) entering the outer part (6) there are provided circumferentially distributed inner running grooves (14). The number of outer running grooves (10) is two or three times the number of inner running groves, so that the outer part (6) comprises more advantageous cross-sectional conditions for hardening operations. Hardness distortions are reduced so that the required functional play values for the opposed outer running grooves (10) and inner running grooves (14) can be accommodated and observed by means of balls (17) guided by a cage (15).

  • Patent number: 5580313
Abstract: A fixed constant velocity joint has an outer part whose inner face includes outer running grooves. The outer part accommodates an inner part with inner running grooves. Each inner running groove and outer running groove jointly accommodate a torque transmitting ball. A cage is arranged at a distance from the inner face of the outer part. The cage is guided on an outer spherical face of the inner part. The inner part includes a first guiding face which guides a guiding element with a second guiding face. The guiding element is radially displaceably guided and axially supported on a contact face. The functional play of the joint is determined by the diameter of the balls. It is possible to set the play in such a way since there is no contact between the outer face of the cage and the inner face of the outer part.

  • Patent number: 5410902
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of producing a cage for constant velocity universal joints. The method involves a chipless forming operation. The method improves radial guidance of the balls by using larger window faces which are also produced in a chipless way. In a first step, starting from a circular plate metal blank, a dish with a rim is deep-drawn. At the same time, projections are formed which are circumferentially distributed along the inner and/or outer circumference of the dish in accordance with to be produced windows. The projections are directed inwardly and outwardly, respectively, away from the longitudinal axis. Also, starting from the dish opening, the projections extend over a distance which is greater than the width of the to be formed windows. In a second step, the base of the dish and the rim, either simultaneously or successively, are punched out while leaving parts to form the projections at the outer circumference.
