Publication number: 20170363577Abstract: To form a layer separating two volumes of aqueous solution, there is used an apparatus comprising elements defining a chamber, the elements including a body of non-conductive material having formed therein at least one recess opening into the chamber, the recess containing an electrode. A pre-treatment coating of a hydrophobic fluid is applied to the body across the recess. Aqueous solution, having amphiphilic molecules added thereto, is flowed across the body to cover the recess so that aqueous solution is introduced into the recess from the chamber and a layer of the amphiphilic molecules forms across the recess separating a volume of aqueous solution introduced into the recess from the remaining volume of aqueous solution.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 16, 2017Publication date: December 21, 2017Applicant: Oxford Nanopore Technologies Ltd.Inventors: Stuart William Reid, Terence Alan Reid, James Anthony Clarke, Steven Paul White, Gurdial Singh Sanghera

Publication number: 20170233804Abstract: Analysis Of A Polymer A biochemical analysis system analyses polymers by taking measurements of a polymer from a sensor element comprising a nanopore during translocation of the polymer through the nanopore. When a polymer has partially translocated, the series of measurements is analysed using reference data derived from a reference sequence to provide a measure of similarity. Responsive to the measure of similarity, the sensor element may be selectively operated to eject the polymer and thereby make the nanopore available to receive a further polymer. Where the biochemical analysis system comprises an array of sensor elements and is takes measurements from sensor elements selected in a multiplexed manner, responsive to the measure of similarity, the biochemical analysis system ceases taking measurements from the currently selected sensor element and to starts taking measurements from a newly selected sensor element.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 16, 2015Publication date: August 17, 2017Applicant: Oxford Nanopore Technologies Ltd.Inventors: Stuart William Reid, Gavin Harper, Clive Gavin Brown, Daniel John Turner, Andrew John Heron, Christopher James Wright

Publication number: 20170219557Abstract: A sequence of polymer units in a polymer (3), eg. DNA, is estimated from at least one series of measurements related to the polymer, eg. ion current as a function of translocation through a nanopore (1), FIG. 6 wherein the value of each measurement is dependent on a k-mer being a group of k polymer units (4). A probabilistic model, especially a hidden Markov model (HMM), is provided, comprising, for a set of possible k-mers: transition weightings representing the chances of transitions from origin k-mers to destination k-mers; and emission weightings in respect of each k-mer that represent the chances of observing given values of measurements for that k-mer. The series of measurements is analysed using an analytical technique, eg. Viterbi decoding, that refers to the model and estimates at least one estimated sequence of polymer units in the polymer based on the likelihood predicted by the model of the series of measurements being produced by sequences of polymer units.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 13, 2017Publication date: August 3, 2017Applicant: Oxford Nanopore Technologies Ltd.Inventors: Stuart William Reid, Gavin Harper, Clive Gavin Brown, James Anthony Clarke, Andrew John Heron

Patent number: 9551023Abstract: The invention relates to a method for modifying a template polynucleotide for characterization, especially for nanopore sequencing. The method produces a modified polynucleotide which is complementary to the template polynucleotide at some positions and which contains universal or abasic nucleotides at the other, and in some instances predicable, positions. The resulting modified polynucleotide can then be characterized.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2013Date of Patent: January 24, 2017Assignee: Oxford Nanopore Technologies Ltd.Inventors: Daniel John Turner, Clive Gavin Brown, Stuart William Reid, James Anthony Clarke, James White, David Jackson Stoddart

Patent number: 9349287Abstract: An embedded Tire Pressure Monitoring sensor is incorporated into vehicular wheels and a secured central server is used to track the unique identification code of each sensor. The TPMS is installed by the vehicular manufacturer in accordance with the federally mandated TREAD Act of 2000. When a vehicle enters the radius of a first encrypted TPM sensor detection transceiver, its TPM sensor identification codes are recorded and time-stamped via an encrypted TPM sensor detection transceiver. If the vehicle enters the area of a second encrypted TPM sensor detection transceiver, the sensor codes will be recorded and time-stamped a second time, encrypted and sent to the secured central server. Using the two encrypted, time-stamped signals, the secured central server calculates traffic flow data.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2015Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: Live Traffic Data LLCInventors: Mark Holzwanger, Xianghong Henry Liu, Jianfeng Zheng, Heng Hu, Jie Sun, Harry Holzwanger, William Reid Block

Patent number: 9342913Abstract: System and method are provided for achieving “inverse kinematics” of 3D graphics depicting an object that consists of multiple parts. The system displays an animation of a 3D graphics object that consists of multiple moving parts. The animation is associated with an animation timeline defined by two end points—a starting time point and an ending time point. The user can manipulate the object back and forth along the animation timeline, between the two end points, by selecting (e.g., clicking on) and moving (dragging) any of the movable parts of the object on a display screen. In short, the user can use any of the movable parts as a scroll/slide button to move the animation forward and backward along the animation timeline, to achieve real-time inverse kinematics movement.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2013Date of Patent: May 17, 2016Assignee: NGRAIN (CANADA) CORPORATIONInventors: Chun Yue Gordon Wong, Graham Thurstan Smith, Keith William Reid

Publication number: 20150344944Abstract: A target polynucleotide is expanded. In respect of each nucleotide in the target polynucleotide, the target polynucleotide comprises clock nucleotides and at least one signal nucleotide in a predetermined order. The clock nucleotides have a predetermined sequence common to each nucleotide in the target polynucleotide. The at least one signal nucleotide is characteristic of the identity of the respective nucleotide in the target polynucleotide. During translocation of the expanded polynucleotide through a nanopore, electrical measurements dependent on the polynucleotide within the pore are made, to derive an analysis signal. Clock signals derived from the clock nucleotides are identified. Relative to the positions of the identified clock signals, nucleotide signals derived from the least one signal nucleotide are derived to analyse the target polynucleotide.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2013Publication date: December 3, 2015Applicant: OXFORD NANOPORE TECHNOLOGIES LIMITEDInventors: Stuart William Reid, Gavin Harper

Publication number: 20150218914Abstract: Methods and systems are described for improved drilling operations through the use of real-time drilling data to predict bit wear, lithology, pore pressure, a rotating friction coefficient, permeability, and cost in real-time and to adjust drilling parameters in real-time based on the predictions. The real-time lithology prediction is made by processing the real-time drilling data through a multilayer neural network. The real-time bit wear prediction is made by using the real-time drilling data to predict a bit efficiency factor and to detect changes in the bit efficiency factor over time. These predictions may be used to adjust drilling parameters in the drilling operation in real-time, subject to override by the operator. The methods and systems may also include determining various downhole hydraulics parameters and a rotary friction factor. Historical data may be used in combination with real-time data to provide expert system assistance and to identify safety concerns.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 2, 2015Publication date: August 6, 2015Inventors: Trent Marx, Gary William Reid, Henry Leung, Xiaoxiang Liu
