  • Publication number: 20030202759
Abstract: A method is provided for cross-connecting individual optical fibers of a plurality of fiber optic ribbons and includes the steps of providing first and second substrates having adhesive thereon. Individual optical fibers are routed on the substrates to form at least portions of fiber optic input ribbons and fiber optic output ribbons, with the fibers extending beyond the substrates to define input and output tails. One substrate is positioned on top of another substrate, and a ribbonizing apparatus is used to gather the input and output tails in ribbon form whereupon they can be coated to hold the tails in their ribbon form.

  • Publication number: 20030200514
Abstract: Resistors may be more accurately tuned by using an external resistor and comparing the value of an internal resistor to the value of the external resistor. The value of the internal resistor may be adjusted to match the value of the external resistor. • Publication number: 20030198446
Abstract: A method of cross-connecting or reorganizing individual optical fibers of a plurality of fiber optic ribbons include the steps of providing a substrate having an adhesive thereon with a mixing zone within the boundaries thereof. A plurality of individual optical fibers are routed onto the substrate to form a plurality of fiber optic input ribbons, reorganizing the fibers in the mixing zone, and forming a plurality of fiber optic output ribbons. At least some of the output ribbons have fibers from more than one of the input ribbons. The input and output ribbons are coated on the substrate outside the mixing zone to hold the routed fibers in ribbon form, leaving at least portions of the fibers in the mixing zone uncoated. The coated ribbons are stripped from the substrate with the uncoated fibers from the mixing zone being loose. A holding device is placed about at least the uncoated loose fibers between the input and output ribbons.

  • Publication number: 20030190576
Abstract: Traditional orthodontic treatment often involves the use of basic repositioning devices, such as braces, and the use of supplementary devices, components or accessories to achieve desired end results. Such components may be mounted on fixed, non-removable devices or they may be part of a removable appliance typically worn prior to the application of the fixed devices. As with traditional treatment, it may be desired to utilize similar components when repositioning teeth with removable elastic repositioning appliances. Due to the nature of elastic appliances, such components may take a variety of forms ranging from readily available traditional accessories to specially created devices. Thus, traditional components may be mounted on or embedded in an elastic appliance, or the appliance may be formed to provide similar components. Likewise, the appliance may be modified to provide additional features for specific orthodontic treatments.

  • Publication number: 20030186416
Abstract: Carboxymethylation of proteins is a highly conserved means of regulation in eukaryotic cells. The protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) catalytic (C) subunit is reversibly methylated at its carboxy-terminus by specific methylesterase. Carboxymethylation affects PP2A activity and varies during the cell cycle. The present disclosure provides the coding sequence of a methylesterase, herein named Protein Phosphatase Methylesterase-1 (PME-1). PME-1 is highly conserved from yeast to human and contains a motif found in lipases, which motif has a catalytic triad-activated serine as the active site nucleophile. Recombinant PME-1 polypeptide produced in bacteria demethylates PP2A C subunit in vitro and okadaic acid, a known inhibitor of the PP2A methylesterase, inhibited this reaction. PME-1 represents the first mammalian protein phosphatase methylesterase cloned to date.
