  • Publication number: 20080137957
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of automatically detecting and tracking a face by an electronic capturing device that alternatively uses a face detecting algorithm to quickly locate a face in a frame based on a skin color model and a face tracking algorithm to locate a face in subsequent frames by a nonparametric technique and a mean shift algorithm. If the face tracking algorithm cannot track and locate a face correctly, the face detecting algorithm will be used again to detect a face position in another new frame until the face position is located successfully, and then the face tracking algorithm will be used again for detecting and locating the face position in subsequent frames. After this method has detected a face position, a variable focal lens is used to slowly and smoothly refocus the frame including a face region, so as to obtain a clear face image.

  • Patent number: 7362355
Abstract: A system-on-chip imaging system includes an image sensor of a two-dimensional array of pixel elements providing pixel data representing an image of a scene, a data memory for storing pixel codewords whereby at least some of the pixel codewords are indicative of the pixel data, a programmable lookup table for providing LUT codewords as output data, and a processing unit for receiving LUT codewords from the lookup table and generating output image data. In operation, a first pixel codeword stored in the data memory is used to index the lookup table for causing the lookup table to provide a respective LUT codeword to the processing unit. The processing unit operates to perform one or more image processing functions in response to the LUT codeword. The lookup table can be programmed to perform a variety of image processing functions, including defective pixel correction, CDS subtraction, privacy masking and dark signal subtraction.

  • Publication number: 20080074505
Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methods of improving of the spectral responsivity of color image sensors that are inherently inefficient in the short wavelength range of the visible spectrum. By using a phosphor composition as a spectral shifter to absorb the short wavelength portion of the incident light, the phosphor then re-emitting the light at longer wavelengths, the maximum of spectral response (the peak of quantum efficiency) of the sensor may be better matched.

  • Publication number: 20080076679
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods of a combinatorial synthesis technique that produces functional materials from a plurality of chemical elements with a compositional gradient either continuously varying across the sample, or where the mole fractions are discretely varied. A contactless heating mechanism, such as a pulsed laser, provides in situ thermal activation necessary for promoting and controlling reaction between precursors, inter-diffusion of precursor atoms, and thermal annealing that is essential for crystallization of deposited materials. The heating may be spot selective and temperature variable so that the required thermal annealing may be conducted in a combinatorial manner.

  • Publication number: 20080048766
Abstract: Techniques pertaining to a circuit architecture capable of controlling a current source to a predefined precision are disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, an automatic trimming circuit is proposed to automatically trim a current generated from a current generator or circuit in accordance with a reference current. The automatic trimming circuit includes a comparator, an ADC and a register. The comparator that may be implemented as a subtractor finds a difference between a generated current and a reference current. The difference is then digitized to an n-bit precision. A digital representation of the difference is then kept in a register and used subsequently correct or modify the generated current to produce a precisely controlled current.

  • Publication number: 20080012953
Abstract: Architecture of an integrated image sensor is disclosed. The image sensor includes an interface to transport image data out of the sensor directly to a host computing device. To accommodate the required data transfer speed, a raw image (e.g., a Bayer pattern image) from the sensor is directly digitized, compressed if the resolution thereof exceeds a range, and output via the interface. A color image of the scene is reconstructed from the raw image in the host computing device.

  • Patent number: 7317706
Abstract: A method for scheduling messages transmitted on a forward common channel of a CDMA system. The method includes determining the ratio between the slotted and unslotted messages transmitted over the forward common channel over a period of time. For each time slot S(i) of the forward common channel, s % time is allocated from the duration of the time slot to slotted messages and u % time is allocated from the duration of the time slot to unslotted messages. The s % time and u % time are determined based on the ratio between the slotted and unslotted messages transmitted over the forward common channel over a period of time.

  • Publication number: 20070257204
Abstract: In accordance with embodiments, viewable images can be created in glass. Viewable images may be created in glass by using a projector which projects ultraviolet light to excite light emitting material. Clear images may be created in glass because the size the light emitting particles in the glass is less than 400 nanometers. In embodiments, the visible illumination of a transparent substrate to display an image is possible, while the transparent substrate remains transparent. Accordingly, for example, drivers of automobiles may view images (e.g. map images) on their windshield while they are driving. As another example, window shoppers may view enhanced advertisements in the windows of stores that they are approaching.
