  • Publication number: 20050220069
Abstract: The Packet Control Function (PCF) has limited knowledge about the nature of the packet data arriving on a bearer path connected via the Packet Data Serving Node (PDSN), and cannot make an intelligent decision on its own as to how best to handle the packet data. Thus, the PDSN provides bearer-specific information by classifying the priority of received packet data; encapsulating the packet data within the payload of a Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) frame; and for high priority packet data i) setting a protocol type field in the header of the GRE frame indicating said packet includes an attribute field; and ii) adding an attribute field to the payload of the GRE packet which provides an indication of said high priority data. Furthermore, the PCF can send an A-11 request to the PDSN indicating the features that the PCF is requesting the PDSN enable.

  • Patent number: 6949877
Abstract: An electron emitter includes a coating layer of a mixture of carbon nanotubes and alkaline-earth metal oxides on an electrically conducting structure. The preferred carbon nanotubes are those having a diameter less than about 200 nm. A substantial portion of electron emission is liberated from the carbon nanotubes, thus lessening the requirement on the alkaline-earth oxides. Such an electron emitter is advantageously used in gas discharge devices to increase the energy efficiency thereof.

  • Patent number: 6946835
Abstract: Methods for spatially resolved spin resonance detection in a sample of material, with a resolution as small as 0.5 ? m –1 mm. In one embodiment, a coupler having at least one pair of degenerate orthogonal modes provides an evanescent input signal along one coupler axis to the sample, to which a magnetic field is applied, and senses a spin interaction signal along another coupler axis. In another embodiment, an evanescent input signal is applied to the sample along one of two identical transmission line resonators, and a difference of the two resonator signals provides a spin interaction signal. In another embodiment, a polarized laser beam provides an evanescent input signal to the sample, and the spin interaction signal is sensed according to a second beam polarization direction. Certain ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic molecules, such as YIG, can be used to tag selected chemical and biological molecules, using spatially resolved spin resonance detection for interrogation.

  • Publication number: 20050175189
Abstract: A dual microphone communication device comprising a first microphone module, a second microphone module and a mixer circuit is provided. The first microphone module amplifies a near-end audio signal to produce a first audio signal. The second microphone module receives and amplifies the near-end audio signal by a fixed gain and a constant phase difference to produce a second audio signal. The mixer circuit subtracts the second audio signal from the first audio signal to produce a third audio signal so that interference resulting from echoes is significantly reduced while keeping, or enhance the near end voice level.

  • Patent number: 6924150
Abstract: A method for improving the magnetic resonance imaging contrast of a selected portion of a sample. A selected ferrimagnetic constituent is associated with the sample portion, by molecular or biological attachment or by some other means, so that the sample portion is distinguished from other adjacent portions of the sample that do not have the selected ferrimagnetic constituent associated therewith. Alternatively, the sample portion is suspected, but not yet confirmed, to have the selected ferrimagnetic constituent associated with it. Ferromagnetic resonance imaging is performed on the sample portion, and at least one resonance frequency ?0 of the sample portion is provided. At least one material parameter of the sample portion is measured at or near the frequency ?0, with enhanced imaging contrast relative to adjacent portions of the sample that do not have the selected ferrimagnetic constituent in association.

  • Patent number: 6922210
Abstract: An improved technique for updating a memory in digital pixel sensors in which a memory update may be directed to only some of the locations or cells in the memory is disclosed. According to one embodiment, a multiplex scheme is employed, in which a threshold memory identifies the locations within a row of memory that are to be updated. Data are first read out of a row of memory to be updated. The data are copied to a first buffer or other short term storage area within the digital pixel sensor. New data from the sensor portion of the digital pixel sensor to be written to the memory are stored in a second buffer. The contents of the threshold memory are then applied to a select input of a multiplexer, where the contents of the first and second buffers comprise first and second data inputs to the multiplexer. Thus, the output of the multiplexer comprises an updated row of memory in which only those locations that are to be updated have been changed.

  • Publication number: 20050094109
Abstract: In accordance with embodiments, viewable images can be created in glass. Viewable images may be created in glass by using a projector which projects ultraviolet light to excite light emitting material. Clear images may be created in glass because the size the light emitting particles in the glass is less than 400 nanometers. In embodiments, the visible illumination of a transparent substrate to display an image is possible, while the transparent substrate remains transparent. Accordingly, for example, drivers of automobiles may view images (e.g. map images) on their windshield while they are driving. As another example, window shoppers may view enhanced advertisements in the windows of stores that they are approaching.

  • Publication number: 20040251420
Abstract: Method, components, design and fabrication process of a advanced X-ray flat panel detector (FPD), with built-in anti-scattering grid to reduce the X-ray scattering are disclosed. We further disclose two methods in the new X-ray detector: In the first method, the grid is placed on top of X-ray scintillator layer of a FPD, the pixels of X-ray FPD underneath are aligned with the hole structures of anti-scatter grids. The high performance anti-scatter grid applied and aligned to the flat panel detector (FPD) pixel-by-pixel can significantly reduce the noise from the scattered X-rays. The key advantages of the improved art are substantial reduction of grid shadow, improved image contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) and minimized attenuation of direct X-rays. The new FPD with built-in grid may significantly enhance X-ray imaging system performance for a FPD based digital detection system with high image quality, high throughput and low cost for many X-ray imaging applications.
