  • Publication number: 20040015591
Abstract: A web-enabled cell phone communicates to Internet servers over a radio link. Multiple connections for web browsing or email are combined into a single persistent connection or pipe over the radio link between a client agent running on the cell phone and a TCP proxy. Combining connections allows for better use of the available bandwidth on the radio link. Wireless acceleration cards on servers gather packet loss statistics that are sent to a collective TCP control (CTC). Losses for connections between a client-server pair are aggregated, and aggregate losses are compared to a threshold. When the aggregate losses are below the threshold, the losses are likely to be sporadic radio-link losses. When the aggregate losses are above the threshold, the losses are likely due to router congestion. TCP parameters can be better adjusted based on whether the losses are radio or router losses.

  • Publication number: 20040008136
Abstract: A circuit includes an input terminal coupled to receive an analog input signal, a multiple number of sample-and-hold circuits and a multiple number of analog-to-digital (A/D) converters. The input terminal of each of the sample-and-hold circuits is coupled to receive the analog input signal. Each of the A/D converters has an input terminal and an output terminal, where the input terminal is coupled to an output terminal of a corresponding one of the sample-and-hold circuits. In operation, the sample-and-hold circuits sample the analog input signal sequentially and store a multiple number of analog samples at each of the sample-and-hold circuits. The A/D converters convert the analog samples in parallel to generate digital values at the output terminals of each of the A/D converters representative of each of the analog samples. In one embodiment, the A/D converters are implemented based on a multi-channel bit-serial (MCBS) analog-to-digital conversion scheme.

  • Publication number: 20030215378
Abstract: The invention comprises novel undoped and doped nanometer-scale CeO2 particles as well as a novel semi-batch reactor method for directly synthesizing the novel particles at room temperature. The powders exhibited a surface area of approximately 170 m2/g with a particle size of about 3-5 nm, and are formed of single crystal particles that are of uniform size and shape. The particles' surface area could be decreased down to 5 m2/g, which corresponds to a particle size of 100 nm, by thermal annealing at temperatures up to 1000° C. Control over the particle size, size distribution and state of agglomeration could be achieved through variation of the mixing conditions such as the feeding method, stirrer rate, amount of O2 gas that is bubbled through the reactor, the temperature the reaction is carried out at, as well as heating the final product at temperatures ranging from 150° to 1000° C.

  • Patent number: 6604971
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an LED lamp includes dispersing color correction particles throughout a suspension media to a viscosity of substantially 2000 cP. In the case of correcting blue GaN LEDs to white light, the particles to be blended are phosphorus having a diameter of less than 20 microns. An LED die is mounted onto a stage and a nano-liter pipette is arranged such that an interface separation of approximately 1 millimeter is achieved between the tip of the pipette and the surface of the LED die. Once the relatively viscous suspension media covers the LED die, ultraviolet light is directed towards the suspension media to cure it. Heat is then applied to further cure the suspension media until solid as observed under a microscope.
