    Abstract: A portable apparatus for analyzing a plant specimen. A housing assembly defines a sensing volume and controls entry of ambient light into the sensing volume when the housing is closed. A specimen support positions a plant specimen within the sensing volume whereby light emitted from at least one light emitter is incident upon the plant specimen. An image sensor senses light from the at least one light emitter that has been incident on the plant specimen. A processor analyzes data obtained from the light sensor to assess one or more properties of the plant specimen. There may be more than one light emitter, e.g., a halogen lamp and LED array, and the apparatus may acquire images under more than one lighting condition. The apparatus may include a mechanism for moving the plant specimen relative to the optical path to take images at multiple regions of interest on the specimen.

    Abstract: A method of atmospheric inorganic and organic nitrogen quantification is disclosed. The ambient air is sampled by drawing it through an inlet followed by a denuder to reduce positive artifacts. After artifact removal, the air sample is collected onto a filter. The filter is subjected to thermal evolution under stepwise temperature program to generate a gaseous product mixture. In the presence of oxygen-containing carrier gas, the gaseous product mixture is oxidized to form oxidized gaseous products of CO2 and nitrogen oxides. Then, the nitrogen oxides products are processed to form an NO product and reacted with ozone to form an excited NO2* molecule. By quantifying the intensity of fluorescence, the concentration of NO2* molecule is measured, which determines the nitrogen content in the aerosol sample. The differentiation of inorganic and organic nitrogen is achieved through processing the thermally evolved carbon and nitrogen signals using multivariate curve resolution data treatment.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method for efficiently synthesizing primary amines, which comprises using carbonyl compounds or alcohol compounds as reaction substrate, liquid ammonia or alcohol solutions of ammonia as nitrogen source, and hydrogen as hydrogen source, and reacting in reaction medium catalyzed by a cobalt-based catalyst to obtain the primary amines. Due to high catalytic activity, the method can realize the reductive amination of carbonyl compounds and the hydrogen-borrowing amination of alcohol compounds at low temperatures in a short time to obtain the primary amines with high yield, and is applicable to a wide range of substrates. The obtained primary amines can be used as raw materials with high extra value for producing polymers, medicines, dyes and surfactants. Further, the cobalt-based catalyst has a good industrial application prospect because it is magnetic which can facilitate separation and recycling of the catalyst.

The telematics device which carries out the method has a controller, memory, and network interface. An accident impact profile may be recorded during the micro wakeups and sent during a regular wakeup duration for analysis by the telematics server.
