  • Patent number: 7149511
Abstract: A wireless intelligent personal server includes a radio frequency (RF) receiver, a memory for storing electronic files, a set of embedded machine language instructions, a central processing unit (CPU), a first interface for a display device, such as a personal digital assistant (PDA), and a second interface for a wireless telephone. The RF receiver receives downstream data transmitted over a downstream wireless communications channel. The CPU executes the machine language instructions to process the downstream data and, thereby, either update an existing target electronic file stored in the memory, so that the target electronic file reflects changes made to a source electronic file, or create a new electronic file in the memory. A display device may be brought into communication with the wireless intelligent personal server, via the first interface, to access the electronic files stored in the memory.

  • Patent number: 6963313
Abstract: A cost efficient multi-band antenna, for use with non-harmonically related frequency bands, for example dual Wi-Fi frequency bands. An antenna element extends away from a ground plane. A sleeve positioned coaxial about the antenna element is spaced apart from the antenna element and the ground plane. Dimensions, spacing and dielectric constants of the antenna element, sleeve and any dielectric spacers are selected to tune the antenna to the desired frequency bands. Further, the ground plane may be the radiating element of, for example a GPS module or SDAR antenna to create a triple frequency band antenna assembly.

  • Patent number: 6184654
Abstract: A holster for a handheld, power intensive electronic device, such as a cellular telephone, incorporates within it a supplemental battery pack. The supplemental battery pack is used to recharge or maintain main, onboard battery pack of the cellular telephone and also to power certain supplemental circuits. The use of the docking-holster at least doubles the useful life of the device battery, which may be kept conveniently small.

  • Patent number: 6172651
Abstract: A low cost glass mount vehicle antenna system utilizes, in a preferred embodiment, an over-coupled quasi-TEM mode transmission line coupler having two simple stamped or printed plates stacked over an L shape internal ground plane. The two conductive plates are located on opposite sides of the glass. With proper open circuit terminations on two of the four coupler ports, the backwards and forward coupling signals are redirected/combined and are effectively fed diagonally between the other two ports, thereby achieving through-glass coupling. The over-coupling achieves this efficient through-glass coupling effect at two spaced-apart frequencies (e.g. 800 MHz and 1800 MHz). The coupler is of a low impedance type and can be used with a variety of collinear array and elevated-feed antennas. It features high efficiency, low backwards radiation, and mechanical simplicity.

  • Patent number: 5898408
Abstract: A low cost window-mounted antenna system for mobile communication systems operating at frequencies in and above the 1.5 GHz band includes an annular ring aperture coupler fabricated on printed circuit boards on each side of the window, with a microstrip line etched on each of the printed circuit boards. A collinear array-type whip antenna with a 1/2-wavelength lower section is used with the coupler. A coplanar waveguide trace is printed on the outside coupling unit to form an impedance matching network for the active element. The RF signal is thus electro-magnetically coupled through the window.

  • Patent number: 5867008
Abstract: A self-contained, rechargeable battery pack uses a coulomb-counting control circuit to measure charge received by and taken from the cells and to store a current charge status of those cells. The control circuit controls a charge/discharge pass transistor in the pack to provide overcharge protection. An always-on trickle charge resistor insures that the controller is in operation during charging even when the cells associated with the controller are completely discharged. A Schottky diode is placed across the charge/discharge pass transistor in order to minimize the discharge dropoff voltage between the terminal of the cell and a corresponding external terminal. The present invention considerably lengthens the useful life of nickel-based rechargeable batteries, as measured in terms of both the number of cycles and the available capacity per cycle, while requiring no extra terminals.

  • Patent number: 5835064
Abstract: An adapter assembly is provided for adapting a portable cellular telephone to receive an external replacement antenna or an external direct feed connection by replacing the internal antenna connection of the cellular telephone. The adapter assembly includes a body portion with an antenna-receiving bore, a telephone chassis contact portion at the other end a circuit board interposed between the body and contact portion which spaces them apart and interconnects them together. The circuit board has circuitry thereon which transposes the connections effected thereby between coaxial conductors of the assembly body and contact portions.

  • Patent number: 5565877
Abstract: An improved glass mount antenna system employs a pair of coupling plates having planar cavities disposed therein with any ground plane portion thereof. Surfaces of the coupling plates which are opposite that of the ground plane include a printed exciter strip which crosses the planar cavities to thereby provide an effective communications antenna assembly which is inexpensive to manufacture and especially well suited for high frequency communication operations such as the ultra-high frequency microwave bands of between 1.5 GHz and about 2.4 GHz which are currently intended for PCN/PCS communications.

  • Patent number: 5471222
Abstract: An improved glass mount antenna system employs a pair of high dielectric constant, high Q, low loss dielectric resonators for TE011 and TE111 resonance mode coupling to couple RF energy through the glass to thereby provide an omni-directional communication antenna system characterized by high radiation efficiency and low pattern distortion. The antenna assemblies are especially well suited for high frequency communication operations, for example at microwave bands of between about 1.5 GHz to 2.4 GHz, currently contemplated for PCN/PCS communications.
