  • Publication number: 20080020363
Abstract: Disclosed is a learning assessment method and device using a virtual tutor. The device comprises at least one action acquisition module, a virtual tutor synthesis module, and a learning assessment module. The method captures and analyzes a first and a second action-feature for a first and a second targets respectively, and constructs an intrinsic model of the second target based on a reference data of the second target. A virtual tutor is synthesized by applying the first action-feature to the intrinsic model such that the virtual tutor exhibits the intrinsic characteristics of the second target but performs a synthesized action-feature similar to the first action-feature. The method then assesses the difference between the synthesized action-feature and the second action-feature.

  • Patent number: 7301787
Abstract: An active type harmonic suppression apparatus, connected in parallel to a power feeder, supplies a compensation current for injecting into the power feeder such that a utility current of a power source is approached to a sinusoidal wave. The control circuit retrieves a load current, a utility current, an output current of the power converter, a power source voltage and a voltage of the dc power capacitor for calculating and sending a reference signal of compensation voltage to a pulse-width-modulation circuit which generates switching signals for the power converter. Furthermore, the harmonic suppression apparatus can provide a fixed or variable reactive power.

  • Patent number: 7272026
Abstract: A power converter for a hybrid power filter includes a power electronic switch set and a DC capacitor. The power converter permits a power line of a power system to directly connect or connect through the passive power filter to a positive or a negative terminal of the DC capacitor of the power converter for free control of the power electronic switches. Consequently, the power converter has a structural configuration that reduces the number of power electronic switches, which can reduce manufacturing costs.

  • Publication number: 20060083372
Abstract: The present invention provides a biometrics-based cryptographic key generation system and method. A user-dependent distinguishable feature transform unit provides a feature transformation for each authentic user, which receives N-dimensional biometric features and performs a feature transformation to produce M-dimensional feature signals, such that the transformed feature signals of the authentic user are compact in the transformed feature space while those of other users presumed as imposters are either diverse or far away from those of the authentic user. A stable key generation unit receives the transformed feature signals to produce a cryptographic key based on bit information respectively provided by the M-dimensional feature signals, wherein the length of the bit information provided by the feature signal of each dimension is proportional to the degree of distinguishability in the dimension.

  • Patent number: 6982546
Abstract: A hybrid reactive power compensation device comprises a passive type reactive power compensator and an active type reactive power compensator serially connected thereto. The passive type reactive power compensator is an AC power capacitor adapted to provide the reactive power that reduces capacity of the active type reactive power compensator. The active type reactive power compensator comprises a power converter, a DC capacitor, a high-frequency ripple filter and a controller. The hybrid reactive power compensation device can supply a linearly adjustable reactive power within a predetermined range, and is adapted to supply a current with a nearly sinusoidal waveform. Therefore, it can avoid the destruction of AC power capacitor caused by the power resonance.

  • Publication number: 20050154799
Abstract: A switching device for RS-232 serial port and USB serial port is adapted to simultaneously provide a RS-232 serial port and a USB serial port for a micro-processor with a single USART. The switching device can automatically switch to select either of the RS-232 serial port or the USB serial port as a main interface for communicating with other external computer facilities and related peripheries. When one of the serial ports is selected as the main communication interface to communicate with one of external computers, the other one serial port thereof still can transmit signals from the micro-processor to another computer through its transmitting data pin (TXD).

  • Patent number: 6906501
Abstract: A control method for the parallel-connected power converters includes a control circuit comprising a voltage feedback circuit and a current feed-forward circuit. The voltage feedback circuit, consisting of a voltage regulated control circuit and a waveform control circuit, is used to control the power converter's output voltage with constant amplitude and low total harmonic distortion. By adjusting the gain of waveform control circuit, it can regulate the current distribution among the parallel-connected power converters. The current feed-forward circuit separates the power converter's output current into the fundamental component and the harmonic component, and amplifies them by different gain. The amplified fundamental component acts as a fundamental resistor to suppress the circulating current among the parallel-connected power converters, and the amplified harmonic component acts as a harmonic damper for preventing from high frequency oscillation generated by the L-C filter.

  • Publication number: 20050088043
Abstract: A backup power supply system supplies power from a first ac power source in normal condition. Once the first ac power source is abnormal or failed, the system automatically turns off the first ac power source and turns on a second ac power source with null transfer time. When the first ac power source is normal, a dc/ac power inverter is controlled to supply an approximately null current that a mechanical switch is allowed to being closed and no circulating current is generated between the first ac power source and the dc/ac power inverter. Since the mechanical switch is successively closed, and it requires no switching operation, the backup power supply system can supply the backup power with a null transfer time.
