Patent number: 4968528Abstract: A process for preparing a magnetic recording medium utilizing an improved coating method. This coating method includes steps of coating a solvent of the same composition as that used in preparation of a magnetic coating solution or one compatible therewith on a continuously running non-magnetic support to prepare a precoat layer of the solvent, and then coating the magnetic recording solution on the precoat layer while the precoat layer is wet. This improved coating method prevents air from being entrained in the magnetic recording solution and thus permits to produce a very thin magnetic recording layer to be formed on the support with high efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1986Date of Patent: November 6, 1990Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yasunori Tanaka, Yasuhito Hiraki

Patent number: 4828779Abstract: A method for uniformly coating a moving substrate by eliminating nonuniformities in the voscosity of the coating solution along the line where the solution is applied to the substrate. A viscosity-varying region is provided either inside or outside of a coating solution pocket in an extruder assembly. In one embodiment, the voscosity-varying region is provided by making the length of a slit through which the coating solution flows onto the support less than that of the pocket. In another embodiment, the viscosity-varying region takes the form of small-diameter tube through which the coating solution is supplied to one end of the pocket. In a third embodiment, a roller is disposed in the pocket and the diameter of the roller and the pocket are tapered towards the center. In a still further embodiment, the solution is supplied through a distributor.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1986Date of Patent: May 9, 1989Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yasuhito Hiraki, Yasunori Tanaka, Shinji Noda

Patent number: 4681062Abstract: A coating apparatus of the extruder type for applying a uniform coating of a solution onto a flexible support continuously run without streaking while allowing operations over extended time periods. A slot through which coating solution is supplied emerges between a doctor edge surface and a rear edge surface. The doctor edge surface is smoothly curved, and an exit end point B of the slot at the rear edge surface is located in a position that satisfies the relation .theta..sub.1 <.theta..sub.2 <180.degree., where .theta..sub.1 is an angle formed by a tangential line drawn to the rear edge surface at the point B and a tangential line drawn to the doctor edge surface at a point A at a downstream end of the doctor edge surface, and .theta..sub.2 is an angle formed by the tangential line drawn to the rear edge surface at the point B and a tangential line drawn from the point B to the doctor edge surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1985Date of Patent: July 21, 1987Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Norio Shibata, Hideo Takeda, Tsunehiko Sato, Yasunori Tanaka

Patent number: 4577362Abstract: An apparatus for removing foreign matter from a flexible support such as a photographic film or magnetic tape. After applying a solvent to the surface of the support from which the foreign matter is to be removed, the support is passed over at least two parallel adjacent plates which extend widthwise perpendicular to the direction of movement of the support, with the plates being located relative to the support at a position before the solvent evaporates. The edge surface of the downstream one of the two plates is provided with a cutting edge at the upstream side thereof. The cutting edge forms a gap with the surface sufficiently small that the foreign matter to be removed cannot enter the gap. Further, the gap is large enough to leave solvent film in a thickness of at least 0.2 microns after passing the two plates.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1984Date of Patent: March 25, 1986Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yasunori Tanaka, Shinji Noda
