  • Patent number: 5678029
Abstract: In an IC card incorporating an IC chip having a data memory and a CPU for controlling the memory and designed to selectively send/receive data to/from an external apparatus, the first and second format groups of instruction data input from the external apparatus are identified. The identified first and second format groups are selectively processed in accordance with designation information stored in the data memory. The results of the processing are then output with formats corresponding to the first and second format groups.

  • Patent number: 5581708
Abstract: In a data transmission system, a card reader/writer provided in a terminal device and an IC card are connected through a contact unit, the IC card is started in response to a signal from the terminal device via the card reader/writer, and transmission/reception of data is subsequently performed. In this data transmission system, the IC card has a CPU for outputting a predetermined answer-to-reset data after the IC card is started and controlling at least two protocols, and a memory for storing protocol type information for determining a protocol to be used from the protocols. The control unit is operated upon starting the IC card, renews the protocol type information in outputting the answer-to-reset data, and returns the renewed protocol type information to an initial one in response to transmission/reception of the data.

  • Patent number: 5414835
Abstract: According to a portable electronic apparatus processing system of this invention, an IC card sends, to an IC card reader/writer, first timer data included in an answer to reset signal and defining a time after it sends the answer to reset signal to the IC card reader/writer until an instruction is received from the IC card reader/writer. The IC card receives a first instruction from the IC card reader/writer and executes corresponding processing. The IC card also sends second timer data included in the answer to reset signal and defining a time after the processed result is sent to the card reader/writer until the next instruction is received from the card reader/writer. The card reader/writer sets the first timer data in a timer, and sets the second timer data in a memory. • Patent number: 5384454
Abstract: An IC card has a data memory for storing at least one registration key data and a control element for controlling the data memory and is adapted to receive key data, as collation data, from an outside, collate it with the registration key data stored in the data memory, hold a result of collation in a holding section such as a RAM, and determine whether or not a subsequent access instruction be executed for the data memory. A present system above includes a unit, responsive to instruction data input from the outside, for internally clearing the collation result of the key data. As a result, the collation result of the key data is not held at all times during a power supply. It is thus possible to prevent any unauthorized access to an IC card data by an unauthorized person during the power supply and to structure a flexible system.

  • Patent number: 5288978
Abstract: A mutual authentication system authenticates a first electronic device and a second electronic device by transmitting authentication data between the first and second electronic devices. In this system, the second electronic device transmits a first authentication data to the first electronic device. In the first electronic device, the legitimacy of the second electronic device is determined based on the first authentication data transmitted from the second electronic device. The first electronic device also transmits a second authentication data, which is used for determining the legitimacy of the first electronic device, to the second electronic device.
