    Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a dense hierarchical retrieval for open-domain question and answering for a corpus of documents using a document-level and passage-level dense retrieval model. Specifically, each document is viewed as a structural collection that has sections, subsections and paragraphs. Each document may be split into short length passages, where a document-level retrieval model and a passage-level retrieval model may be applied to return a smaller set of filtered texts. Top documents may be identified after encoding the question and the documents and determining document relevance scores to the encoded question. Thereafter, a set of top passages are further identified based on encoding of the passages and determining passage relevance scores to the encoded question. The document and passage relevance scores may be used in combination to determine a final retrieval ranking for the documents having the set of top passages.

    Abstract: A computing device trains a machine state predictive model. A generative adversarial network with an autoencoder is trained using a first plurality of observation vectors. Each observation vector of the first plurality of observation vectors includes state variable values for state variables and an action variable value for an action variable. The state variables define a machine state, wherein the action variable defines a next action taken in response to the machine state. The first plurality of observation vectors successively defines sequential machine states to manufacture a product. A second plurality of observation vectors is generated using the trained generative adversarial network with the autoencoder. A machine state machine learning model is trained to predict a subsequent machine state using the first plurality of observation vectors and the generated second plurality of observation vectors. A description of the machine state machine learning model is output.

Further, effective trapping of molecules to be detected that are not prone to bonding to noble metal nanoparticles in the vicinity of the noble metal nanoparticles can be achieved by combining the physical process of phase transition and crystallization with the physical trapping technique using optical fiber tweezers, so that the sensitivity of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectrum detection is significantly improved.

    Abstract: Disclosed probes comprise metal nanoparticle cores associated with magnetic particles that allow probes associated with targets to be concentrated by an applied magnetic field to increase detection sensitivity and provide sufficient spacing between concentrated probes to avoid signal quenching. The probe may comprise at least one recognition receptor, and may further comprise at least one reporter molecule, such as a fluorescent tag, a Raman reporter, or combinations thereof. Concentrating probe-target composites substantially enhances a sensing signal, such as from 5 to 10 times, compared to detection without concentrating the probes. The method may be used to detect, for example, interleukins at concentrations at least as low as 25 pg/ml in sputum or blood from a subject for early and precise profiling of viral infections, such as SARS-CoV-2 infections.
