    Abstract: A data reading apparatus and method of operating the data reading apparatus. The data reading apparatus is adapted to reading data stored inside an optical storage device. The data reading apparatus has a light source and an image sensor. The light source emits light and illuminates the read-out section of the optical storage device. The image sensor captures the reflected light from the read-out section of the optical storage device to form an image. The data reader may further incorporate an image processor for receiving the image from the image sensor and converting the image into digital data before outputting the data to a host. The forgoing image sensor includes a linear image semsor.

    Abstract: A sensor for detecting the entrance of a document into a sheet feeder. The document sensor is attached to the sheet feeder. The document sensor comprises a printed circuit board, a key peg and a rocking lever. The printed circuit board is attached to the sheet feeder. The printed circuit board has a first lead wire and a second lead wire detached form each other. The key peg is also attached to the sheet feeder pinning the rocking lever so that the rocking lever is free to rotate relative to the key peg. A conductive member is attached to the rocking lever so that rotating the rocking lever is able to establish an electrical connection between the first lead wire and the second lead wire through the conductive member.

    Abstract: An objective lens anti-shock adjustment device comprises a holder that is capable of fixedly holding an objective lens via at least a fastening element. The holder is mounted in a casing by means of a plurality of resilient elements and a plurality of adjuster screws. The resilient elements connect the holder to the casing and the adjuster screws engage through the casing and abut against the holder opposite to the resilient elements in order to allow the adjustments of a vertical positioning and a horizontal orientation of the objective lens. The holder and the casing are provided with respective openings that expose a slot formed on the objective lens. By the external engagement of a tool through the openings into the slot, the objective lens is slid in the holder in order to adjust the depth of focus.

    Abstract: A scanning chassis is suited for scanning a document. The scanning chassis includes a case, a light source, at least one reflector, a lens assembly and an optical sensor. The case has a light transparent slot shaped like a bar form, wherein the widths corresponding to the points along the longitudinal direction of the light transparent slot are not all the same. The light source can illuminate the document and an image can be generated at the place where the document is illuminated by the light source. The image can be projected on the reflector through the light transparent slot. The image can be projected on the lens assembly by the reflector's reflecting the image. The image can be projected on the optical sensor after the image passes through the lens assembly.

    Abstract: A floating window, suitable for use in a flatbed scanner. The flatbed scanner has at least a top lid and a chassis. The floating window includes a transparent flat panel disposed under an opening of a top lid. A supporting structure and a limiting structure are further installed on the top lid, and a flexible structure is installed between the supporting structure and the limiting structure. While being pushed by the chassis and pressed by the flexible structure, the transparent flat panel is in a floating status. When the chassis is periodically shifting to perform scanning, the transparent flat panel is correspondingly undulating up and down according to the periodic movement of the chassis; and consequently, the document disposed on the transparent flat panel is shifted up and down accordingly.

    Abstract: A scanning method in which a scanning head moves back and forth to scan a paper sheet located in a scanning window is disclosed. The method of the present invention includes the steps of a) making the paper sheet go forward a first distance into the scanning window; b) the scanning head scanning a portion of the paper sheet; c) the transmission mechanism driving the scanning head to move a second distance in a first direction, wherein the second distance is smaller than the first distance; d) repeating the steps b) and c) until the scanning head completely scans a plurality of portions of the paper sheet in the scanning region; e) repeating the steps a), b), c) and d), except that the scanning head moves in a second direction opposite to the first; f) repeating the steps a), b), c), d), and e), the movement of the scanning head alternating between a first and second direction, until the scanning head completely scans the paper sheet to be scanned.

    Abstract: A document surface micro-adjust mechanism for an optical scanner. The optical scanner has an outer casing with a transparent document platform in the upper section. An optical lens is enclosed inside the outer casing. The document surface micro-adjust mechanism uses a carrier chassis to embed the transparent document platform. One end of the carrier chassis is hinged upon the upper wall of the outer casing while the other end of the carrier chassis has a through hole to be engaged to a locking hole on a latching structure attached to the upper section of the outer casing. A locking element passes through the through-hole to engage with the locking hole. An elastic element is positioned between the carrier chassis and the latching structure. Depth of the locking element inside the locking hole may be adjusted to vary optical distance from the document surface of the transparent document platform to the optical lens inside the scanner.

The present invention mainly encompasses a sheet table for placing a document sheet. The protective structure includes an anti-bending member mounted onto the traveling module for preventing the flat cable from being over-bent at its first end. A guide channel member is disposed on the protective cover under the flat cable and along the moving direction of the traveling module for guiding the flat cable during moving of the traveling module and preventing the flat cable from being swung left and right.
