  • Publication number: 20020191231
Abstract: A transparent scanning light source for a scanner. The transparent scanning light source, having both lamps and their associated transformer, is mounted on a base frame and an n-shape light-channeling board is mounted on a cover. By detaching the light-channeling board and the lamps, fabrication of the cover is simplified. The light-channeling board is divided into an illumination section, a support section on each side of the illumination section and a corner section at the junction between the illumination section and the support section. The bottom surface of the support section is capable of channeling light emitted from the lamp into the light-channeling board and out through an irradiation area underneath the illumination section. A diffuser plate is also attached to the irradiation area of the illumination section so that an evenly spread light source is produced for transparent scanning.

  • Publication number: 20020186475
Abstract: An optical system inside a scanner for scanning a document. The optical system has a carrier box, a light source, a set of light reflecting mirrors, a circuit board, a converging mirror and an optical sensor. The carrier box has a hollow interior and a receiving slot in the upper surface thereof. The light source is fixed outside the carrier box such that light emitted from a lamp and reflected back from a document is able to pass through the receiving slot into the carrier box. The set of reflecting mirrors inside the carrier box reflects the light beam towards the converging lens and focuses upon the optical sensor. The optical sensor converts intensity of the light beam into electrical signals. Image distance between the converging lens and the optical sensor are adjusted before positioning the lens and sensor on the circuit board.
