  • Publication number: 20080025669
Abstract: In the present invention, methods and systems for fabricating novel LPFGs are taught. Fabrication is preformed by focusing a CO2 laser beam having a diameter of 30 to 40 ?m onto a fiber, such fiber being fixed and weighted on either ends. The variations of transmission spectrum and polarization dependent (PDL) loss of the CO2 laser-grooved LPFGs with different fabrication parameters as functions of applied as functions of applied tensile stain are demonstrated and evaluated.

  • Patent number: 7110785
Abstract: A mobile communications system includes base stations and mobile units. A power control scheme is provided in which a mobile unit can enter into a discontinuous transmission (DTX) mode. During DTX mode, the mobile unit is not transmitting traffic channels that can be monitored to determine frame errors so that the target ratio of energy per bit to noise spectral density (target Eb/No) can be adjusted. Instead, the base station monitors bit errors of bits in a pilot channel communicated by the mobile unit during DTX mode. Using this technique, the target Eb/No can be adjusted even when the mobile unit is not transmitting traffic channels, so that outer-loop power control can be performed. A number of mechanisms can also be used to detect when a mobile unit has entered DTX mode.

  • Patent number: 6898192
Abstract: The method and apparatus of the present invention includes reducing the power level by a delta value in excess of the reduction in the bit error rate and its proportionate power reduction rate in response to a data rate change. If the bit rate is reduced to eighth, then the power transmission level can be reduced to a value of 1/(8+?) relative to FULL power. As an additional aspect of the present invention, the base station controller also generates a selectable frame error rate calculates the corresponding signal to noise ratios that will provide the commanded frame error rate. The FER may be selected according to data type or source or according to power transmission level and for data rate.

  • Patent number: 6605635
Abstract: N-(3,5-bis-disubstituted aminomethyl-4-hydroxy)benzyl aromatic sulfonamides and N-(3,5-bis-disubstituted aminomethyl-4-hydroxy)phenyl aromatic sulfonamides compounds in accordance with the animal test, are active in the prevention and the treatment of cardiac arrhythmia. These compounds are prepared as corresponding diamines by the condensation of optionally substituted aromatic sulfochlorides with p-hydroxybenzylamine, p-aminophenol, or the like, which followed by the Mannich reaction of the resulted corresponding aromatic sulfamides with formaldehyde and secondary amines; or directly obtained by the reaction of the aromatic sulfamides with 4-amino-2,6-bis-disubstituted aminomethylphenol. Subsequently, the diamines are reacted with various acids to provide their salts.

  • Patent number: 6590874
Abstract: A signalling method for controlling unnecessary power increases and call drop during discontinuous transmission (DTX) mode of a frame-based transmission system. The signalling method comprises the steps of (1) detecting, at a receiver end of the transmission system a status of a transmitted frame indicating one of two possible transmission modes including (a) when a gating-off of the traffic channel occurs, and (b) when no gating-off of traffic occurs and normal traffic is being transmitted, and (2) controlling a change in the receiver target bit energy to noise spectrum density ratio Eb/No in response to the detection step so that a receiver target Eb/No is increased only when the detecting step does not indicate a gating-off of traffic has occurred.

  • Patent number: 6289062
Abstract: In a wideband Personal Communication Services system, a method and system are proposed for suppressing co-channel interference and reducing inter-symbol interference generated during the transfer of a data packet through a selected radio frequency channel. The system includes a weight controller utilizing recursive least squares algorithm to generate a plurality of appropriate weights to be integrated into received signals in order to maximize signal-to-noise ratio. A detected signal or a training sequence is intelligently switched in as a reference sequence in order to generate a plurality of appropriate weights. To further enhance the adaptive array system and take advantage of the multi-path radio frequency communication environment, two multi-path diversity schemes are included. One embodiment includes an adaptive array system with parallel array processors and another embodiment includes a system with tapped delay line processors.
