Abstract: Langmuir-Blodgett films are provided in which a molecule is chemically bonded with a bottom electrode substrate as part of a crossed wire device comprising two electrodes and a molecular layer therebetween. The molecule, which comprises a switchable moiety and a connecting moiety, is provided with a photolabile capping group attached to the connecting moiety. The photolabile capping group temporarily caps the reactive connecting group of the molecule. The capped molecules are processed to form a LB film on the water-air interface of water. The films are then exposed to UV light. The photolabile capping group decomposes to give back the connecting group, which remains in the water. As the uncapped LB films are transferred to a bottom electrode substrate, the surface of the electrode reacts with the reactive connecting group of the molecule to form a chemically bonded LB layer on the substrate, thereby providing improved LB films.

Abstract: An automatic idle adjusting apparatus with a side shift function automatically adjusts the position of guides according to the kind of the workpiece provided and adjusts the distance between two workpieces processed using one metal mold. The apparatus includes two idle bases, a plurality of guides, and a plurality of three-axis moving means on the idle bases that move the guides. The three-axis moving means each comprises an X-axis guide block, a Z-axis guide block movably connected to the X-axis guide block, and a Y-axis guide block movably connected to the Z-axis guide block; one of the guides is movably connected to the Y-axis guide block. A shifting means is also provided that adjusts the distance between the idle bases.

A case protects the image forming unit and a handle is installed on the case to handle the developing unit. The handle pivots to a first position attached to the case and a second position opposite to the first position.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display panel includes a liquid crystal layer having a twist angle of ±10 degree. An upper polarizer is disposed over an upper substrate of the liquid crystal display panel, and includes an absorption axis forming at an angle of 47±10 degree in a clockwise direction with respect to a major axis. An upper ?/2 retardation film is disposed between the upper substrate and the upper polarizer, and includes ?nd1 of 260±10 nm and a slow axis forming at an angle of 166±10 degree in the clockwise direction with respect to the absorption axis. An upper ?/4 retardation film is disposed between the upper substrate and the upper ?/2 retardation film, and includes ?nd2 of 140±10 nm and a slow axis forming at an angle of 111±10 degree in the clockwise direction with respect to the absorption axis. Therefore, the optical condition of the optical film assembly is optimized to improve an image display quality.

Abstract: When a subscriber registered in a first wireless private network system moves to a service area of a second wireless private network system, the roaming service method and system of the wireless private network systems in a multi-zone updates HLR and VLR information of the second wireless private network system and synchronizes the updated information with HLRs and VLRs of other regional wireless private network systems so that the subscriber can be provided with in-plant wired/wireless services in any regional wireless private network systems. When the wireless terminal subscriber registered in the first wireless private network system moves through the wireless private network systems in the multi-zone, the wireless terminal subscriber can be automatically serviced from the wireless private network systems regardless of regions if the wireless terminal subscriber is located in any of the wireless private network system service areas.

The main body includes a pressing part for holding a heat sink in contact with a heat-generating component, an engaging part and a latching leg; the engaging part and the latching leg are disposed at opposing ends of the pressing part. The piercing member includes a piercing body extending through the engaging part of the main body and a tubular part and a hook. The wire clip includes a pivot shaft pivotally connected with the tubular part of the piercing member, a locking leg for fastening to the main body and a lever interconnecting the pivot shaft and the locking leg together, wherein the lever is rotatable to change the positional relationship between the piercing member and the engaging part of the main body.

Abstract: An apparatus and method manages timings of Node Bs by performing a first-step cell search on primary synchronization channel signals transmitted from the Node Bs, and stores frame boundary indexes representing frame boundaries for the Node Bs by performing a second-step cell search on secondary synchronization channel signals received from the Node Bs. Upon receiving a third-step cell search start command, the apparatus and method compares frame boundary timing corresponding to each of the frame boundary indexes to a current timing from a reference timer, performs a third-step cell search on hypotheses corresponding to the frame boundary indexes at a next slot boundary following the current timing by using scrambling codes in a Node B code group obtained by the second-step cell search, and provides a third-step cell search complete information after completing the third-step cell search on hypotheses corresponding to the frame boundary indexes.

Abstract: A cyclone dust collector and a vacuum cleaner having the same. The cyclone dust collector has a cyclone body shaped to have a relatively wider upper portion and a relatively narrower lower portion and also has a suction port and a discharge port, a grill member connected to the discharge port, a dust receptacle connected to the cyclone body, and a blocking member for partially blocking the grill member. Air drawn in through the suction port moves in an increasingly wider radial path as it travels upwardly to the discharge port, increasing the centrifugal force on suspended particles as they travel toward the discharge port. The shape of the cyclone body prevents turbulent flow from being generated. Dust is prevented by the blocking member from attaching to the grill member before being centrifuged, performance of the grill member is enhanced.

The segmentation information indicates portions of programs that are to be included in skimmed or condensed versions of the received programming, and is produced using manual or automated methods. Automated methods include the use of ancillary production data to detect the most important parts of a program. A user interface allows a user to control time scale modification and skimming during playback, and also allows the user to easily browse to different points within the current program.

Abstract: A system and method for determining head-disk contact (HDC) in a disk drive uses the signal from the magnetoresistive (MR) read head and does not require the presence of magnetic transitions on the disk. The method thus has application in head-disk testers or “spin stands” to facilitate the design and testing of slider-suspension assemblies and fly-height actuators, as well as in disk drives to take corrective action before HDC and/or to control fly-height actuators. The invention is also a magnetic recording disk drive that has a fly-height actuator and a low-pass filter and comparator circuit for the MR signal. When the output of the filter exceeds a threshold the comparator circuit output indicates the onset of HDC. The comparator circuit output is input to a digital processor or controller. When the controller determines the onset of HDC or that HDC has occurred, it generates a control signal that can be used to cause the disk drive to take corrective action.

Abstract: The invention provides a series of G?q protein variants that functionally couple to sensory cell receptors such as taste GPCRs (TRs) and olfactory GPCRs (ORs) in an overly promiscuous manner. According to the invention, the functional coupling can be determined, for example, by measuring changes in intracellular IP3, or calcium. In a particular embodiment, the G?q protein variants can be expressed in mammalian cell lines or Xenopus oocytes, and then evaluated using calcium fluorescence imaging and electrophysiological recording.

One light receiving means receives part of light output from R, G, and B light sources and performs conversion to a current signal. Timing of a channel quality information request by a base station is determined, existence of an automatic repeat request acknowledgment (ARQ_ACK) message of downlink data is determined on requesting the channel quality information from the subscriber station, the automatic repeat request acknowledgment message and the radio resource for the channel quality report to the subscriber station is allocated, the automatic repeat request acknowledgment message and the channel quality report information is received, and a modulating and coding level of downlink data is determined by extracting the channel quality report information from the automatic repeat request acknowledgment message.
