  • Publication number: 20020150353
Abstract: A fiber optic module having a push button release to unlatch and withdrawal (i.e. unplug) it from a cage or a module receptacle. A kicker-actuator includes a button, an arm or push rod, and a hook in one embodiment to couple to an actuator. An integrated actuator is also provided with the push button subassembly. Embodiments of a withdrawal tab are also provided to pull the fiber optic module away from the cage or module receptacle. A nose grip is further provided pull the fiber optic module away from the cage or module receptacle. A belly-to-belly mounting configuration is introduced for the push button release fiber optic modules.

  • Publication number: 20020110336
Abstract: A fiber-optic module having a housing/shielding unit and a module chassis frame having optical, electrical and electro-optical components. The housing/shielding unit functions both as a protective outer housing and an electromagnetic shield. The housing/shielding unit includes forward fingers for a flush mounting in one embodiment and backward fingers for an extended mounting in another embodiment. The fingers can contact a bezel, face-plate or wall of host system to ground the housing/shielding unit to a chassis ground. The module chassis frame may be formed of a conductive material and grounded as well through a host system faceplate or otherwise to the chassis ground. A transmit ground for transmitter components and a receive ground for receiver components are isolated from the chassis ground.

  • Publication number: 20020110338
Abstract: A fiber-optic module having a housing/shielding unit and a module chassis frame having optical, electrical and electro-optical components. The housing/shielding unit functions both as a protective outer housing and an electromagnetic shield. The housing/shielding unit includes forward fingers and backward fingers. The forward fingers provide an EMI seal around an opening in a bezel, face-plate, backplate, wall, or panel of a host system and thereby can ground the housing/shielding unit to a chassis ground. The backward fingers can contact host tabs of the host system and can also thereby ground the housing/shielding unit to a chassis ground. The module chassis frame may be formed of a conductive material and can be grounded as well through a host system faceplate or otherwise to the chassis ground.

  • Publication number: 20020101675
Abstract: A system for adapting head switching sequence in a disc drive includes a method of measuring the time duration for a head switch operation and the time duration of a track switch operation. The system compares the two time durations to determine whether head switching or track switching should be utilized within a zone of tracks on the surface of the data disc. Track switch time durations and head switch time durations may be averaged within a zone and the averages compared to determine whether to use head switching or track switching.

  • Publication number: 20020015248
Abstract: A method of storing values that involves splitting each value into a n-bit value and an overflow value, and storing, in a main table, the n-bit values in order of increasing magnitude of the values. For each overflow value, the position of the smallest n-bit value is stored in an overflow table. To retrieve a value, the position of the corresponding n-bit value is compared to the positions stored in the overflow value to determine the overflow value of the n-bit value. The actual value is then obtained from the n-bit value and its overflow value.

  • Publication number: 20010055172
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of describing defects that requires less memory space than conventional methods. Entries of a first defect table are sorted according to the type of track layout, or zones. They are then grouped into clusters. Each cluster is characterized by a set of new parameters, including a starting sector, a scratch parameter, a span parameter, and an angle parameter. The new parameters are stored in a second table, replacing the corresponding entries in the first table. In this manner, a single entry in the second table replaces one or more entries in the first table with one entry in the first table.

  • Publication number: 20010048567
Abstract: A defective track management method is provided for managing defective tracks in a disc drive where the logical zone table is generated after the drive certification test which determines the defect distribution; allocating sectors to achieve a constant number of sectors per track for a particular logical zone in the logical zone table wherein some sectors may be spare sectors allocated efficiently to avoid under sparing or over sparing, as the defect distribution on the disc drive has already been determined; and reassigning defective sectors to the spare sectors corresponding to the track or cylinder where the defective sector is located.

  • Patent number: 5951687
Abstract: A storage device for use with a computer is provided, the device includes self diagnostics and configuration. The device is adapted to recognize when the host computer system requests an operating system from the device, and instead of providing the operating system, provides its own diagnostic and configuration software. When the software executes on the computer, the software causes a user interface to be generated, which provides various configuration and diagnostic options to a user. Upon termination of the self diagnostic and configuration software, the device provides the operating system to the computer such that the start up sequence is resumed.
