  • Patent number: 6952280
Abstract: A paper type dedicated for use only with jobs matching specifically designated criteria, such as a specific client and a specific job, is loaded into a network printer. Jobs not matching specifically designated criteria, such as jobs from non-designated clients or for non-designated jobs, are not printed out onto the specially loaded paper type. A user designates the client or job through a designating unit (3) inside the network printer (2). After designation, the client such as a personal computer generates a printing request, which is sent over the network (1) and received by the network printer (2). Upon reception, the printing unit (4) determines whether or not the received request matches the designating criteria. The printing unit (4) prints out only those jobs, which match the designating criteria.

  • Patent number: 6943910
Abstract: A facsimile server machine that is easy to access from a client personal computer but does not allow the client personal computer to rewrite machine settings without authentication. The facsimile server machine includes a controller for executing a plurality of HTTP tasks. Each HTTP task has a port number. The controller decides which HTTP task should be executed based on instructing information from a client personal computer and a port number appended to that HTTP task. The relationship between the HTTP task port numbers and the client personal computers is defined in a table created in the machine. The controller refers to the table when executing the HTTP task, using the specified information.

  • Publication number: 20050134903
Abstract: A communication device which reduces labor of a user required for an operation for specifying data without losing convenience of the data, and a data conversion device which converts the data into data which can be used in such a communication device. When creating a transmission file by a terminal device, an identifier is added to the file by a driver and the file is stored in any location within a retrieval range. At the communication device, the user inputs an identifier from an input unit. With the identifier as a retrieval key, a file on a data exchange network is retrieved and the acquired file is transmitted as a transmission file from a communication unit. In this case, the identifier added to the file is deleted and then the file is transmitted. When a plurality of files are retrieved, the files are selected and designated by the user and the selected file is transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20050088686
Abstract: A facsimile machine provides file specifying information of a transmission file to an agent software. The agent software runs an appropriate application program in accordance with the file specifying information. By using this function, a prescribed file on a data conversion device is converted directly into an image content via a network from the facsimile machine. Accordingly, a facsimile transmission of the image content to a prescribed destination can be carried out just by an operation from the facsimile machine. As a result, an efficiency of a facsimile transmission process is improved.

  • Publication number: 20050013289
Abstract: An IP communication device which, when carrying out a new IP communication with a destination that is already carrying out an IP communication, can simplify a communication operation and improve the speed of a communication process and also reduce the time and effort required until starting the new communication. When accepting a starting request for starting the new IP communication with a destination that is carrying out the IP communication, an IP address of the destination that is carrying out the IP communication stored in a destination IP address stored unit is designated as a communication destination. Then, the new IP communication is executed on the connection that is carrying out the IP communication.

  • Publication number: 20040257614
Abstract: A communication device of a transmitter acquires a URL of a reception field associated with a prescribed process from a communication device of a recipient. The communication device of the transmitter writes a file into the reception field specified by the URL. The communication device of the transmitter executes the process associated with the reception field by using the written file. Accordingly, since communication can be carried out between the communication devices just by a file operation, the communication protocol can be unified easily and communication can be carried out between different types of devices.

  • Publication number: 20040246531
Abstract: When a user clicks and references a title from titles displayed in a thread on an electronic bulletin board, a control unit instructs an electronic bulletin board information generating unit to generate electronic bulletin board information including a main text and an image of a comment and transmits the electronic bulletin board information to a user terminal. When the user sends a reply of a new image or an edited image, identification information is provided to the transmitted image and the image is stored in an image storage unit. In addition, link information that links the image to the original image is transmitted to an image data version information management unit. In this case, when there is no reply of a comment, the control unit instructs an automatic comment generating unit to generate a comment of a reply of the new image or the edited image. The comment is stored in a comment storage unit and the comment link information is transmitted to a comment link information management unit.

  • Publication number: 20040247103
Abstract: A communication management device holds a management table that manages users of a first communication device through a sixth communication device connected to a network and status of the users, whether the users are absent or present. When a user A of the first communication device carries out a telephone conversation with a user K of the fourth communication device, the first communication device transmits information of the user K to the communication management device. The communication management device determines whether or not the user K is present in accordance with the management table. When the user K is present, the communication is established between the first communication device and the fourth communication device. Accordingly, unnecessary voice data can be prevented from being transmitted to the network.

  • Publication number: 20040225741
Abstract: A teleconference system is large-scale. In the present invention, an IM server provides instant message service to a first client, a second client and a content providing device. The first client adds position information of a first cursor to an instant message and transmits the instant message to the content providing device. The content providing device transmits an instant message including the position information to the second client which displays the same content as the first client. The second client draws a third cursor at a position on the content specified by the position information. Accordingly, a conference or a meeting with a person at a remote location can be carried out by a relatively small system architecture.

  • Publication number: 20040214588
Abstract: An IM server offers instant message service to a communication device, a first client terminal and a second client terminal. When the second client terminal is not logged in the IM server, the first client terminal transmits a first instant message to the communication device. The communication device stores the first instant message. When the second client terminal logs into the IM server, the communication device transmits to the second client terminal, a second instant message generated in accordance with the first instant message. Accordingly, even when a transmission destination is not logged in, the instant message can be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20040151204
Abstract: When receiving a transmission request that designates a user as a destination, a control unit of a communication device inquires a remote server via a communication unit. The remote server looks up data, and returns a communication destination device that manages the user of the destination and communication information for communicating with the communication destination device. The control unit of the communication device receives the reply, specifies a communication channel or a communication protocol in accordance with the communication information to the communication destination device through the communication unit and transmits the information to the user within a range of receiving ability. When transmitting the information, a cover page can be formed from the information of the user of the destination, and the cover page can be attached to the information and transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20040095612
Abstract: To provide a facsimile machine which can reduce a period of time from the start of an original document scanning process until an end of a transmission of the electronic mailing of image data, by carrying out an electronic mail transmission process in parallel with an original document scanning process (parallel process). Approximately in parallel with the scanning of a first page P1 of the original documents, a second page P2 of the original documents, and a third page P3 of the original documents, corresponding image data P1D, P2D and P3D are generated, and further in parallel, packets as electronic mail data D1 through D9 are generated. When the generation of the electronic mail data D1 is completed, the electronic mail transmission data MD1 is transmitted, and then, the electronic mail transmission data MD2 through MD9 are transmitted serially according to each of the corresponding electronic mail data D2 through D9.
